Have you seen any buildings with separate horn and strobe NAs? The local Targets are like this. Red NH horns on the support beams and white RSS strobes on the ceiling tiles.
I’ve seen that exact setup at my local Target. I’ve also been to two schools where the gyms had big PA/fire alarm loudspeakers on the ceilings and unmarked 2904-9101 strobes on the walls.
I often see newer systems with separate speakers and strobes in my area, but installations with separate horns and strobes are less common. A few years ago, I saw http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/Chupacabra_1/Fire%20Alarms/IMG_0307_zps458cc0a2.jpg this installation at a rest stop along Highway 401 in Trenton, ON. I have no idea why they opted for this setup since horn/strobe units probably would’ve been fine for this type of application.
Another similar setup I’ve seen is the one pictured below. Strangely enough, other parts of the building simply had MTL and U-MMT horn/strobes instead of separate devices; the only exception was a newer addition, which had a combination of Wheelock MT horns and ZRS strobes.
I’ve seen this too at some of the newer “Onroute” rest stops along the 401. One has EST Genesis Strobes and Horn/Strobes. I also saw this at a pair of schools in Sarnia. Both schools had Wheelock MTs and LSMs (the single gang ones, if that’s still the model # for them). Both systems were installed in the 90s, and I believe they were both replaced, since both schools were added onto, with EST Genesis and a newer EST system.
I’ve never understood the reason towards the separate horns and strobes, I think I’ll have to ask my codes teacher about that tomorrow.
