Siemens Discontinues Their Last Conventional Panel

I was just looking around on the website and I noticed that the SXL-EX now appears in the legacy section in the “phasing out” category. This was their last conventional panel. I think that, over the next few years, we will see the demise of new conventional panels. It appears that Siemens now expects customers to replace SXL-EX systems with their 50 point addressable panel- possibly using monitor modules to reuse the old conventional devices.

What are your thoughts? Is this a good thing? Is addressable the future for even small buildings with 50 point panels?

Wait really? Huh. I didn’t think they were selling it anymore though.

Pretty sure that’s already happened given how many manufacturers have completely abandoned the conventional side of the industry.

Maybe. I for one still think there’s some place for conventional systems: sure not really in the case of large buildings that need & benefit from addressable systems, but in smaller places conventional systems should suffice & work well.

the SXL Has been discontinued for a long time now. Siemens has used rebranded mircom for years now.

Only reason they kept it around as long as they did was because it was marine rated.

As soon as the Compact panels got approved for marine use they discontinued the SXL

Which Mircom panel is Siemens rebranding?

TXL Series. For example, the TXL-1000 which is a rebranded mircom FA-1000,

Not surprised, how most companies are going.

Even with Kidde, their VS systems are pretty much all addressable. You basically install boards on the loop that are conventional zones (like the RZI-16 or CT1 for contact devices only). That’s the way conventional systems are now if we replace them.

Yeah: like I said above conventional systems are nearly dead as a whole (though as I also said I do hope they’ll still be around in some capacity since not every single structure needs a full-blown addressable system).

Interesting, not sure I’ve ever heard of that. Monitor modules are an option too.
