Silent Knight 5104B help

Just to clarify:
When you say you installed it just the same way the original was installed, did you pay attention to where the white stripe is on the cap and where the thick outline is on the board where the cap should go? Remember that on polarized electrolytic caps the negative pin (the cathode) has a white stripe along the label, and I don’t think I’ve ever run into any electrolytic cap where the label is on backward.
We’re not being sarcastic, we’re just making sure we have all the information.

Yeah, I installed it EXACTLY the same way as the original, I just wonder if the label on the new one is backwards.

What makes you think the label is on backwards? As long as the negative stripe of the cap is on the negative side (and + to + as well) on the board you should be fine. If it was truly mislabeled, the cap would have probably swolen and blown up after you plugged in the panel.

Huh, of course I’m also wondering if I don’t have enough solder on.

Here’s a good image I found online. If you have a continuity meter, check for continuity on the pad and the leg of the cap.

It seems to be OK but I’m guessing that one side isn’t making a proper connection

It should be fine. If you aren’t sure, use a continuity meter to check.
I’ve read through this topic again. What exactly are the issues with the panel currently?

The capacitor needed replacing because the bell circuit wouldn’t sound, the capacitor was replaced, however the bell circuit still does not activate.

The positive leg of an electrolytic capacitor will always be longer, regardless of if the label is incorrect. Just something for you to kind in mind for the future. The same goes for LEDs, the anode (positive) will always be the longer pin.

Right, so I think I have it correct, because the capacitor hasn’t blown up on me, so I think it’s a bad connection!

How do you know the capacitor has anything to do with the bell circuit problem? It’s very possibly it has something to do with another circuit on the panel.

Have you metered where you reinstalled the cap?

Like?

Yeah, the same spot where the broken one was, I’m hoping that I just don’t have enough solder!

use your soldering iron to heat up the joint before actually applying the solder, it should suck it into it.

Righty-ho, I’ll hop to that once I get the chance!

Working on my panel, results seem dissapointing! Capacitor re-soldered, still bell trouble…

AND STILL NO PHONE LINE! (lel, no big deal)

Hello, community
Newbie here, I have a Silent Knight 5104B and I am curious what do you connect to the House Tip and House Ring?

Also, does it matter the polarity of the Telco Tip and Telco Ring how the phone lines are connected to the panel? the red/green?
Thank you in advance

Yes, of course it matters! House tip/ring is the phone line output, you hook it up the same way you’d connect the incoming line. Tip is red, iirc, and ring is green, this should remain consistent between the two.

Please explain it to me like I am 5. I am installing a GSM dialer, do I need to have any lines to the house tip/ring?
