Simplex 4002 & Tons of Equipment

I recently obtained a full Simplex system that was removed from a school in Chicago and sold on eBay. Instead of paying shipping (and having all the stuff show up destroyed, more than likely), I opted to go there and pick it up! I ended up getting everything from the system, even the batteries! In all, this ended up more than doubling the size of my existing collection.

Panel is a 1991 2-unit 4002 (Enhanced CPU) with an expansion NAC card.
Came with a 4009-9201 IDNet NAC extender.

For those of you who keep up with me on Discord, you’ll know that a lot of the stuff pictured will be for sale soon (not including the panel). More info about that later.

Pictures and detailed device list attached!

Excelente! I love the fact that a number of salvage operations that I’ve heard about recently like this one have been largely (if not outright completely) successful: makes you feel good to know that valuable pieces of life safety history will be preserved! Fantastic job!

That is awesome! Glad to see a successful save.

Does the Enhanced CPU have the newer temporal 3 cadence? I know that @dewpoint8900 has a 4002 from 1994 and it does regular temporal 3, without the extra-long pause in between.

Correct. The Enhanced CPU revised temporal 3 to be in-line with the industry standard.
EDIT: This is not correct. I have figured out that the revised temp. 3 did not come out until after the 4002 was discontinued, in the form of replacement CPU boards/master firmware chips.

Seems EEPROMs made after the 4002 was discontinued do. My enhanced 4002 CPU (before it died), was made in 2012 and had regular code-3.

Did Simplex continue to make EEPROMs for the 4002 even after the panel itself was discontinued to help keep existing ones in service longer? (or at least so there would be replacement ones on hand in case a still-in-service 4002 needed one for whatever reason, since otherwise doing so would make no sense given the 4002’s discontinuation)

Yes, a few service parts were made even after the panel was discontinued. This is standard practice with a lot of their equipment (since some parts for the 4100+, for example, are still being manufactured/re-manufactured).

EDIT: 4002 service parts were finally killed off at the same time as the 4020, in December 2017.

I’ve seen 2001 parts from as recently as the late 2000s, I’m sure the same applies to some other Simplex panels.
