Simplex 4005 I/O card

When replacing an i/o card, is it a plug and play kind of thing or is there programming involved if replacing the same type of card?

Whatever the techs say, just remember to completely cut power to the panel when removing and replacing the cards.

We always have to ask if this is a hobby system or an installed system in a building?

If it is a installed building system we also need to know your experience level on fire alarm systems.

This is for our protection and yours.

This is an installed system. I have 18 yrs experience with fire alarm systems. i just don’t do too much with the Simplex panels

If you are replacing a failed card with the exact replacement part number no programming is required. The terminal strip is plugable so the wires do not have to be removed from the terminals. Be aware there is no locator guide so be sure to plug it in on the replacement board carefully.

Changing a card type in a position or adding a new card position does require programming.

Cards are not hot swap. The system must be powered down, battery and AC, before working on it.

Yes power down – I have heard of a 4005 self-destructing when a card is pulled from the panel.
