Existing fire system and error shown in pictures indicating. please advise on what to do next.
If I keeps looping that startup sequence, then the panel is likely toast. Check to make sure the keypad/display is seated properly to the main board. Ensure no ribbon cables or harnesses are hanging loose and not connected.
Disconnect the battery and turn off the supply power. Wait five minutes, then restore power.
i checked those things you mentioned all good. but still error.
Try power cycling as suggested above. If that doesn’t work and it keeps bootlooping, safe to say that panel’s dead.
If I replace the motherboard, can I program it manually or do i need to program it from software?
Firmware upoload in matherboard not possible?
Yes, you can program the 4006 from the keypad. Even if the passcodes were changed, there’s a way to backdoor them.
Not too sure on how firmware works with these, but they do require the software.
hereis what i know: 4006 is stuck in bootloader mode. The “Checking for PC / Code Verification C / Bootloader 1.01” screen usually means it’s looking for a connection to the programmer, but either the firmware isn’t loading or there’s a communication issue.
Here’s what I’d try to fix it cheap:
- USB to Serial Adapter – Make sure you’re using a known-good adapter with a genuine FTDI chip (some knockoffs won’t work right). Cheap ones off Amazon can be hit or miss with Simplex gear. Plug it into your PC and check Device Manager to see what COM port it shows up as.
- COM Port Setup – In the 4006 programmer software, go to Options > Communications Settings and set the COM port to whatever your adapter is using. Also try lowering the baud rate (sometimes 9600 works better when it’s stuck in bootloader).
- Try Reloading the Program File – If you have access to the original .cfg or .mcf file, use the 4006 Programmer to push it back to the panel. You might need to hit “Download to Panel” a few times if it doesn’t catch right away.
- Soft Reset Trick – Try this: power down the panel (AC and battery), then hold Enter + Exit and power it back up. Sometimes it’ll exit bootloader mode and go back to normal.
If you don’t have the software yet, look around on forums like The Fire Panel Forums, or even older uploads on archive.org — search for Simplex 4006 Programmer. Sometimes people are nice enough to share legacy versions there. Just be cautious where you get it from.
If all else fails, keep an eye on eBay for used 4006 boards — the CPU board isn’t always that expensive, especially if you find one from a pull.
Let us know what you try — happy to help more if you get stuck with the COM stuff or software side.
