Simplex 4010 LCD issue

My simplex 4010 display was working fine, then all of a sudden some of the pixels stopped lighting up as much as they should. I have so far tried removing the display and reseating it, and also spraying non conductive, plastic safe contact cleaner on the contrast potentiometer. My next step will be to remove the display and clean the pins with alcohol. Anybody have experience with this issue? I feel like im going to need to replace the display. Thanks so much for your help.

Some LCD screens fade over time. I lost an old TI calculator to this, and honestly, yeah, you’ll have the best luck replacing the screen.

I tried cleaning the pins with alcohol, made no difference. Tapping on it does nothing as well. Sigh. Looks like im looking for a new display.

The big issue with displays like these is that often they have a thin rubber/graphite strip (called a “zebra strip”) that with times can shrink or degrade, maybe that’s what happened there?

Though usually a zebra strip problem like this manifests itself by a whole row of pixels straight-up disappearing.

You might be lucky if you can find a very similar lcd on ebay, i know for the 4100ES i could find an almost perfect match by the numbers on it. The only thing that was different was the orientation of some of the connectors being soldered on the other side of the card.
