Simplex 4010 to Simplex 4003 Wiring Help

Hey, everyone! This is my first post here (and I don’t mean to violate any rules or conventions in this post, so if I do, please let me know). I’m a small hobbyist and I recently got a Simplex 4010 and a 4090-9101 ZAM in hopes of wiring my Simplex 4003 to it in adjunct mode. However, the 4003’s manual says to use the 4010’s N2 terminals (TB3) for auxiliary power for the ZAM and the 0V earth fault monitoring line for the 4003. Should I follow the manual, or use the auxiliary power terminals on the 4010 (TB5)? I could also use some general advice on what else to make sure of. Thank you!

Howdy and welcome to the forums!

No violation of rules here - that’s why this category exists!

I found the same wiring diagram that you did for the 4003 and it seems that (for some reason) they only gave the terminal locations for the 4008 panel inside of the 4008/4010 diagram, since TB3-5 and -6 are the aux power locations on the 4008.

I would use your TB5 terminals for this. Everything else seems consistent and correct.

I will also note that you should make sure your dip switches are set properly for the mode you are using. Good luck with your install!

Now it seems I’m having a couple new problems. My 4010 keeps reporting a trouble with NAC 1. I have a 10K ohm resistor in the NAC terminals on the 4003, and I made sure the test switch was to the right. Also, the 4010 reports a trouble with the ZAM. Do I need a resistor over the IDC as well?

For the NAC circuit, you can technically put the resistor at the beginning of the circuit to dummy-out the trouble if you can’t get it to clear on the 4003 end. Not recommended for actual field installs of course, but this is a demo so you can bend the rules.

As for the ZAM module you do need a resistor across terminals 7 and 8 where the IDC goes to the 4003. Same thing, put it either at the module itself or at the end of the line - either way it should clear. It is a 3.3k ohm. Here is a diagram for the ZAM module.

Thanks for your help! I just ordered some 3.3k ohm resistors, so when those arrive, I’ll try it out. One last thing. Is there anything else I should be making sure of on either the 4010’s end or the 4003’s? Should the ZAM just be of type Fire Monitor Zone in the 4010?
In the 4003, I currently have all the SW3 DIP switches set to 0, and all the SW6 switches turned off. Anything else I should make sure of? Thanks in advance.

Now it seems a new problem has arisen. I keep getting an IDNet Channel Failure trouble. I unwired the whole SLC and it doesn’t go away. Is there any way I can fix it? Thanks again.

IDNet Channel Failure appears when the SLC does not sense any devices. It is normal for it to appear with nothing wired to the SLC, or after recently disconnecting/reconnecting a device (especially if that device was the first/only device on the SLC).

As for your other questions: Fire Monitor is fine for the point type.

SW3 and SW6 should be all off, so that is correct.

Well, I just tried wiring them up again, and still it persisted. Even tried factory resetting the panel, and it was still there. Do I need to replace a chip/the SFIO board?
