Simplex 4901 Multi-Tone Horn From 1994!

Ok. I just came across these things on eBay.

They are in the 4901 series, and have the same grille as the 4901-9805 and 9822. The model number is 4901-9811.

I have never seen these before, but they must be pretty rare!

Anyone else ever seen this type of horn before?

Not rare… not even close.

Oh. I just have never seen one before on eBay or YouTube, and I couldn’t find any data sheets on Google, so I figured they might be rare. Darn.

I know what these are… They’re not very rare in terms of the electronics but in the 4901-style enclosure, that’s uncommon.

They’ve got a Faraday 3-tone horn that was used in the FCI HEF/HES-STW and Faraday’s own version.
Simplex had a 2901-xxxx horn that looked like my FCI HES-STW without the strobe, which also had this horn. A school I did an inspection at this summer had those horns on strobe plates and I looked at a spare near the FACP.

Here’s what they sound like-- Please note that when it did march time and code-3 that was being panel coded.

Alright. That makes a lot more sense. I remember watching videos on these Faraday 3-tone horns, but I totally forgot about the relationship between Simplex and Faraday, and I never considered that this could just be a Faraday horn in a Simplex enclosure.

And yeah, I was just referring to the horn being in the 4901 enclosure. It’s just really cool, in my opinion, to come across uncommon alarms like this.

I’d love to a fire alarm inspector for that reason.
