Hey guys, I just got my simplex 4903 horn only (without grille or strobe) and I have tried to code it on my fire lite ms 2 but it will not code to anything but continuous, can I program it directly from the horn?
Well, since the MS-2 outputs Full Wave Rectified current to the NACs, I’d say it’s not out of the question that you may have inadvertently fried your horn.
No, you can’t code a 4903 from the horn, since that’s usually done via SmartSync.
What kind of horn is it? Electromechanical or electronic?
Is the sticker on the back with the complete 8 digit model number (4903-####)? I might have a datasheet for it if you can give me the full number.
Your horn might be toast. I really wish you would of asked first.
FWR shouldn’t fry a horn. It will only damage Simplex strobes.
When you say “it won’t code to anything but continuous”, do you mean that the horn does not sound when you code it to temporal, or that the horn sounds in continuous regardless of the coding?
I remember Andrew specifically saying that simplex horns from the 90s would be damaged on FWR…
and I quote
Assuming that the 4903 signal OP is referring to is just an electromechanical horn (NOT the electronic horn or any Simplex strobe (from the 4903 Series on)), then it would fall under the “OK to Power with FWR Power” category given that quote from Andrew.
So I think NJMOO should clarify whether or not it is, in fact, an electromechanical horn and provide a model number if possible.
The model number is 4903-9239 and it is an electronic horn, it ignores all coding from the panel and just does continious
 Yah that horn is most likely fried…
Model Number: 4903-9239
Free-Run
Can be used as-is.
So it should work with coding.
I am wondering if the panel is actually coding. Have you verified that with a meter?
If you have another horn does it work correctly with that one?
I ask this because if the panel is actually coding how is the horn making sound in the time the circuit is turned off?

The model number is 4903-9239 and it is an electronic horn, it ignores all coding from the panel and just does continious
That is the type of horn you should NOT use on a FWR power source, so it’s very likely the horn is dead.
The horn still works fine

The horn still works fine
You are very lucky then… :?
