Siren Systems Now Testing During the Winter

I have heard a few people talking about how their local siren systems are now testing in the winter when it is snowing and below freezing. I wanted to see if my city would do the same. Since they test the last Friday of the month, today was my chance to see. Sure enough, at 9:34 AM (4 minutes late), all of the sirens in my area roared to life.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why cities with siren systems are now testing in the winter, too? I know that in my area they are only used for severe weather, which is something that doesn’t happen during this time of year where I live. Could they be planning to use the siren systems for other types of emergencies?

You never know, & it’s always good to make sure life safety systems such as outdoor warning sirens are working so that they’ll be ready at a moment’s notice in the event of an actual emergency!

Most cities, including mine just test their sirens every month no matter what weather. Also in europe, sirens are now being maintained more often due to political issues. but it makes sense that siren systems are tested in winter as there could be weather related issues such as a snow storm or a blizzard
