SmartSync Module to a Fire•Lite MS-4

If it is possible, can somebody help me with wiring a SmartSync module to a Fire•Lite MS-4?

That should be as simple as wiring the “NAC IN” terminals on the SCM (provided it’s a 4905-9938 you have) to one of the NACs on the MS-4 (making sure to observe proper polarity in both cases of course).

I have two nacs im using and im just doing strobes.

Just as a warning, this could potentially happen on FWR power:

There’s also rumors that FWR power can damage Simplex devices, so do it at your own risk. I don’t have any evidence of that being true, but I also can’t prove it wrong.

Well that should make no difference in wiring I think.

You know, good thinking: I actually didn’t remember that myself! I actually have personal experience with FWR damaging one of my Simplex devices, so I can confirm that it does indeed happen.

There is a good chance that the MS-4 will damage the SmartSync module, as it can only handle 2V of ripple. Simplex Knowledge Exchange

I have no idea how much ripple the MS-4 outputs (I dont have any panels or a true RMS capable multimeter), but something tells me it’s either very close to 2V or its over. Either way, I would not do it.

I am assuming this is a hobby system.. Two options you can choose from to handle the risk of FWR damaging your Simplex devices:

  1. If your panel has batteries. only activate the NACs when on battery power.
  2. Get a DC to DC filter to put between the NAC and the horn/strobe to effectively remove the FWR prior to sending it to the device itself.

Gosh my old videos make me cringe  Yeah this is as clear as it gets though - FWR and Simplex don’t mix!
