Smoke alarm question

I have this hard wired alarm in my home. Was built in 1982. It is very very loud and sounds nothing like any smoke alarm I’ve ever heard. Almost dounda like a vibratory horn. Any clues as to what model it is. I can see the brand but can’t make out the model as it has a smudge over where that info would be. It’s a Firex brand.

Sounds like someone is killing a goose? Yeah, time to replace. It’s about 22 years past its life expectancy.

You should replace that Firex smoke alarm with a talking First Alert smoke alarm.

I remember having a smoke detector like that in my house when I was a kid…back 20 years ago…lol That’s ancient!

We recently replaced the one in my house with a newer smoke alarm. The make and model # on mine is a Norton AC8WS.

My 2 year old daughter loves to push the buttons on the smoke detectors in the house and she loves the sound this one makes, as do I. from what I am seeing it is very old so It must be original to the house then.

Your 2 year old daughter will eventually break the smoke alarm by pushing the buttons a lot.

no we only let her push the button once and when we say she can.

I’d recommend the Gentex S1209 smoke alarm. It’s a high quality photoelectric smoke alarm made in the USA instead of china. A little pricey but it’s quite reliable.
Gentex also makes another model, the GN-503, which is like the S1209 except it also has a CO detector.
