Some vintage simplex devices i found that still remain in my school

im taking a blind guess and saying that these two devices were likely from the 80s or 70s as that was when the wing that i found this in was built, im also taking a blind guess that my school likely used to have a 4208 or 2001 system back before 1992

Vintage simplex EOL resistor cover plate, i think it might say the FACP panel it belonged to on the plate but i couldn’t hardly read it, i also do not know if the EOL resistor is still in there, this was inside the closet for the mini gym in my school, and probably about 10-15 feet away from where i took this picture is a BG-10 along with a 1st gen SHG

Simplex 4040 Mechanical horn that has long since been painted over, that conduit that runs along the ceiling has been cut i think as i have never ever heard it sounding whenever the building system is in alarm, that was inside the middle school gym (my school is a combination of a middle and high school) and this was upstairs from the old EOL resistor i found

I do not have a picture of it but i have found a Sensiscan 2000 inside the high school office, i do not know if it is deactivated, i think it might be networked into the modern Silent Knight panel that the middle school uses so whatever company that installed the new system didnt have to reroute every wire from the old high school and old middle school system into the new Silent Knight

For clarification the high school system entirely consists of vintage Gentex, Fire Lite, and System Sensor devices that all still do function, along with a new network of System Sensor CO1224Ts since my school has had 5 carbon monoxide emergencies this year, with all of this wired into the Sensiscan

And then the middle school uses a combination of old Gentex and Fire Lite devices in the older wings such as the Gyms and Wood/Welding shop, and the newer wing has Spectralerts and BG-12s and I3s that are all wired to the silent knight panel, i believe the older devices are still wired to the Sensiscan though but there is a chance they are wired to the Silent Knight

If yall can see if you can provide insight into what Simplex panel my school used that would be great, i havent found anything else that involves simplex yet as there really isnt anywhere else i can look to find anything as most other rooms where more EOL resistors or horns are out of my reach (they are all locked)

Okay i believe that the system my school used to use was a 4208, as the 4040 was discontinued around the same time the 4208 was discontinued, the 4208 also has the STR logo on it just like that EOL Resistor

as seen in this photo at the top you can see the STR logo

According to analysis that I’ve done, that particular Simplex logo was used from at least 1965 to 1977, so that I guess is the approximate timeframe most of those devices would have been made during.

Oh? Very interesting indeed: not every day you hear about a school with CO detection! (though it’s definitely concerning that it’s only there because your school has had 5 CO incidents)

Yeah those several pieces of evidence do indeed point to a Simplex 4207 or 4208 as the original panel (or perhaps one of the other 4000-series panels they were selling around that time instead).

The CO incidents are mostly originating from the older wings of the building where the AC systems are a lot older, there has been no major incidents involving a person during them as most of the time they happen in the middle of the night when the heaters are running, theres only been one CO incident while school was in session and the whole building was evacuated within less than a minute

Oh, alright, good. Still might be a good idea to have the sources checked out & prevented from causing another incident though.

Theres a fire department across the street from my school, and i believe my school might have a smoke purging system because they can vent all of the CO2 really quickly, i dont know for sure though

Sure, but if you can take as many measures as possible to either prevent an emergency or make sure that everyone makes it out safely if one does happen, why not?
