Got this NIB Statitrol duct detector. Made in the 80’s at some point (only know this because of the Simplex 4262-701’s logo). Made completely of thicc plastic.

Good acquisition! Must be a Canadian variant too going by the bilingual English-French label.
What do you suppose that metallic thing on the bottom-right corner is & is for?
That (as listed in the manual) is a smoke test hole. Statitrol says to light a piece of paper on fire and insert it into the hole. I would much rather not stick burning paper into the housing, but to each their own.
Ah okay. Yeah that’s definitely not a wise or safe thing to do by today’s standards for sure: you should still at least be able to squirt some smoke spray through the hole though, so it still kinda serves a practical purpose regardless!
