So when I first visited the Commissary located in Portsmouth VA, I’ve seen two strange speaker strobes in the produce section. They seem like ‘notification appliance homebrews’ that are part of a misting system used in the produce cooler cases to keep the produce in these cases fresh. They don’t play fire alarm tones and voice evac messages, but all they could play was a sound of a thunderstorm. When the misting system activates, these speakers play that sound and the strobe mounted on top of each speaker flashes until the misting system deactivates. There are two of these speakers, which are wall mounted reflex cabinet speakers. And each speaker has a strobe (Which is a Potter Signal SL-401) mounted on top of them. I’ve heard those speakers play a thunderstorm sound, but have not seen the strobes flash nor the refrigerated produce getting misted. It’s a common practice for some grocery stores (Such as Kroger, Publix, Safeway, and others.) to play a thunderstorm sound while their refrigerated produce is being misted. By the way, grocery store refrigerated produce misting systems are not fire suppression systems.
If you’ve seen speaker strobes that play a thunderstorm sound, you may reply if you want. I also accept images and videos of them in action.
