Strobes flashing in code 3

Cool! You should try to get a video if/when you can!

The Genesis already can violate codes given the premises of the installation, and how mischievous the occupants of the building are. they are built poorly, proprietary, and really brought down my standards of edwards signaling. i believe they are among the worst, if not the number one worst, of the devices to exist,

Iā€™d say thatā€™s going a little far but like with some of Edwardsā€™ other products some design choices of the Genesis are questionable (doesnā€™t necessary mean itā€™s bad though: heck Iā€™d say it serves its purpose in most cases).

So does a guy running down a hallway yelling ā€œFIRE!ā€, but we just use fire alarms for that now.

agreed at my school they have edwards speaker/strobes and one in the gym that is missing the cage is totaly messed up im guessing the strobe is busted

The strobes on the EST Genesis have a flawed design which the strobe on both the wall mount speaker strobe and horn strobe can easily come off and break. The voltage the strobe produces when flashing is around 330volts and it wouldnā€™t be UL listed if the cover was missing.

I like the Genesis, it is one of the better alarms out there. For one, you donā€™t need sync modules like the TrueAlert and others, all you need is an Edwards panel that has Genesis sync and there you go. I wouldnā€™t say proprietary, An Edwards Fireshield is capable of syncing Genesis for example, and my company uses Kidde, the smaller version of Edwards. They also fit on single gang boxes, which is perfect for tons of retrofits, as many of those older systems used nothing but single gang boxes, and also have trim plates available. The OG Genesis is not even being made anymore, they are making the LED version now.

I can see where you are coming from and I will admit I do like the genesis but the strobe cover issue is something that I would be worried about in schools and like I said before at my school we have some that are missing the cover.

I get that. Iā€™m surprised that is an issue, many places I go to never have the strobe covers missing, I think Iā€™ve seen it in one building in the 6 years Iā€™ve been doing this.

i see them alot in the schools when i go to robotics competitions
