Just discovered something huge today! I recently got my hands on two of the new System Sensor LED L series horn strobes, and I decided to mess around with them today. After jittering the power in the right way, I was able to get one to go into temporal 4 CO mode. I also have a video of two doing it at the same time unsynchronized. I know a few have done this before, but I thought it was really cool. Here are some videos:
Alright, good, & they are, so thanks. Something tells me that the white strobe together with the temporal 4 wouldn’t be considered legal though (heck why manufacturers are even trying to fit temporal 4 into horn/strobes when most of the time non-fire alerting like that would be handled by a voice/mass notification system & only a voice/mass notification system (because of their additional capabilities) I have no idea).
As far as I know, white strobes are fine for non-fire use, and I believe I even saw some standards that prohibit the use of amber strobes for MNS in some cases. The more obvious problem is the FIRE lettering, but that can be changed with a bezel.
Well last I heard I could have sworn that white strobe were limited solely for fire alarm use & nothing else by code.
What!? I don’t know why that would be the case when it’s the ideal color for non-fire emergencies! (which it’s basically been adopted as by now anyway)
NFPA 72 section 24.5.17.3 allows a single strobe to be used for both fire and MNS if it is clear/white, has no lettering or ALERT lettering, and is visible to the public.
I am probably misremembering, as I don’t know where I saw this. The requirement may have stated that amber strobes are prohibited if they are used for both fire and MNS (i.e. the requirement above).
