The parking garage at the mall in my area recently got rid of its fire alarm system. They had SpectrAlert Classics for the NAs and they had pull stations. Recently all the NAs and pull stations were removed and backbox covers were put on the backboxes where the NAs and pull stations used to be. Why did they get rid of the fire alarm system in the parking garage?
Not sure. Maybe because most parking garages don’t really have alarm systems?
It’s possible that the system failed and a fire alarm system was no longer warranted in that type of structure by local codes, so it was removed entirely rather than having it repaired/replaced.
I don’t believe they are required to have them. It just has to be fully sprinklered.

I think it depends on the area. Some areas might be required to have fire alarm systems in parking garages
Just about every garage I’ve seen in New York that is more than 2 levels has an alarm system of some sort. For example, the garage at RPI has a Johnson Controls system with Wheelock AS horn/strobes.
In my city the only parking garages that have systems are ones that are already connected to a building already. All of the freestanding ones don’t have them, they don’t even have sprinklers.
This seems to have happened in a self-contained parking deck near me as well. They did instl some new heat detectors near the elevators, probably for some form of elevator recall. But no more pulls, and the 7002Ts were removed except for one on the roof level (not sure if it’s connected to anything).
normally nothing is required in a free standing parking structure, it’s a giant piece of concrete. only thing that can burn is the cars inside and there’s plenty of exits and ventilation for any people around. elevator recall systems are the only thing needed in most of them.
elevator recall systems are the only thing needed in most of them.
and that would be tied to the sprinkler system or a local heat detector in front of the elevator?
