Those ‘rare’ Kidde pulls you mentioned are the B5. They were common especially in the early 1990’s, but not nearly as common.

Are you sure those are Kidde rebranded 7002T’s? As far as I know, Thorn, Potter, Honeywell, CP, Spectronics, Pyrotronics among others rebranded the 7002T.
Though the Potter and Thorn variants are rare, I saw a Potter one on eBay and Thorn and ones at the airport this morning.

Thorn also rebranded the B5, and the airport had both a combination of Kidde and Thorn branded units.

Yup, they were Kidde 7002Ts. Silver sticker that says kidde. Also, their are several different generations of TrueAlerts. Also has some 2903s. The 4010 has 2 troubles today. In a few weeks, it’ll be gone.

Are the contractors kind enough to allow you to salvage any of the equipment?

Don’t know. I’m just an intern putting up j-hooks and running wire etc. Not allowed to touch devices. Not going to ask and the answer is probably no.

Yeah that’s an adaptahorn light. I’ve never seen one before.

That is an Edwards CFA series dome light. The Edwards site shows them still in production, but I don’t think you can get them new with “FIRE” lettering on the lens.

No idea what they are. The horns are branded by Simplex and I’ve only seen one light that doesn’t say fire.

The light I know goes with a retrofit plate that was used for the Edwards Adaptahorn back when they were used as an alarm. If the horn is a Simplex horn, than its a 2901-9806. They are known to be VERY loud since the elementary school across from my middle school had them as Federal Signal 450Ds and if you were on the side of the building when they went off, you could hear them through the open windows. I also dealt with them as Space Age Electronics 2DCDs in high school. One open are down near the cosmetology shop had one and if you were to be anywhere near there when it went off, not just in that area, you could hear it. On the other end is a 4904+2901-9838 horn/strobe which is not even as loud as that was.

Kinda bumping this up. Not sure if I’m supposed to post here either but oh well… :lol:

I saw fire alarm inspectors testing the initiating devices on a silent walk test. I noticed them and asked if they were doing walk testing, and they said yes.
Later they came into my class room to test the duct detector switches (which didn’t go off when the magnetic test button was attempted). They later put red markings on the areas where the initiating devices had failed. I frequently found them around the doorposts of rooms with the duct detector switches, so that might not have been so good… :expressionless:

It would have been interesting to ask to help with inspection… I somewhat regret not doing that but I don’t mind - the other students might have thought of it as odd.

Today I started my first fire alarm tech job! It was a pretty exciting day, but didn’t do a whole lot. I did my first annual inspection on a small 3 story walkup, the panel was a Mircom FA-101T, which we replaced a defective pull station. We also delivered 36 10 lb fire extinguishers to a factory, and did a fair bit of defiencies. Our office is stocked full of different fire alarms, including an Edwards 8500 among things. Very fun day and excited to keep seeing what this field brings me!

Working my first week as a tech, was pretty interesting! I did a couple more annuals, all on Mircom panels (FA101T or the FA-1025T), inspected fire hoses & fire phones on 2 19 story buildings, replaced 20 extinguishers at another building, did some manager training, and replaced a Sinplex pull station at a college dorm that was near a broken sprinkler head. It was in a parking garage so the pull station was covered in ice! Nonetheless, a very great week, and excited to see what awaits me next week!

A couple of interesting devices I found on the job:

The back of an Edwards Duotronic horn. This was in a 4 story apartment building, we were there because something is wrong with the south NACs, they sounded lower than the other two NACs. We’re going back wednesday to hear the alarms (since we have to post).

This was in another 3 story walkup. This is parts of an old Cincinnati system that were once there (Now controlled by a FA-101T) which are still working parts of the system.

Nope, the glass rod is what holds the pull station in place actually! Inside there is a pushbutton, and 2 hooks for the glass rod. The lever has a screw with a " T " bar at the end, which goes behind the glass rod.

This was actually from about a month or so, but this was me testing out some Edwards 5520 D horns in an apartment building. There was a complaint that the horns weren’t as loud on one side of the building as the other. In the end we did end up installing a booster panel to boost some of the horns.

-This was a test of one of the horns in siren mode.

Yeah, they’re actually meant for like factories or larger industrial buildings. How they ended up being installed in there I haven’t the slightest clue, but they’re effective that’s for sure lol. There is a twin building there, but the other building has 10" bells instead.
