Unknown BG-12?

Saw this while looking for pull stations on Google, this caught my eye in the images section.

I not sure have you looked on the page it was linked to ?

It’s a Chinese knock-off of the original BG-12. Similar to the knock-off SpectrAlert that has been posted on this board before.

why wouldn’t honeywell sue the company?

not quite sure
china makes a lot of knockoffs and don’t get sued much

that’s the problem with manufacturing in china, after a few years your product gets completely ripped off. they even claim this thing works on honeywell addressable panels so all of the electronics in it were ripped off too.

This page has more pictures of the inside of the pull: 2 Wire Manual Call Point With Pull Down Plate Without Breaking Glass Used For Fire Alarm System - Buy Manual Call Point,Glass Power Points,Point Of Sale System Product on Alibaba.com

Chances are its not worth Honeywell’s time/money to sue a company over this knockoff since I doubt it would ever pose any sort of a threat to the “real” BG-12 at all.

As for it working on addressable panels, the circuitry inside looks like it’s only a LED, a resistor, and some diodes. In fact, the wiring diagram for it specifically indicates that it only works with conventional control panels. Honeywell would probably have more of a problem with this pull if they were able to somehow copy their addressable technology.

the one you linked is conventional, look at this one though:

(part# is a closer match to the name of the image in the OP)

there are a lot of chinese knockoffs of these things apparently.

Not worth the time, they are not using the Honeywell name. Plastics like this are typically not built in a Honeywell plant but purchased by a plastics manufacture usually in China. Wouldn’t surprise me if the plastics company is making these on the side. Not the 1st time ive seen it happen.

Interesting, but even if they did manage to clone the technology, what kind of sane installer is going to put it into an installation? I would be cool for someone to get one of these and test it with an addressable Notifier panel, but then again, I would be kind of afraid to hook it up to one in the first place.

honeywell sent all the technology straight to them to have it made, they didn’t have to clone anything! all the plans and specs just get shuffled to a sister factory where they pump out units and sell them in asian or European markets. i doubt they’d get many into the US, or even try too.

really, any company who 100% outsources to china expects this outcome. the smart ones have chinese do the grunt work (like mold the plastic), then put it all together here in the US. obviously honeywell isn’t worried about a pull station being copied though.

I doubt there would be any chance of an installer using it in this country. There are a lot of knock-off sprinklers being copied off of Tyco and Globe but they really don’t make it over here. Not sure about the alarms, but none of the sprinklers bear the correct approval logos on them, as none are approved by UL or FM. That being said, no fire protection company is going to even think about ordering them.

To go even further with this, even if some were ordered, they would likely be discovered when the data sheets had to be presented for approval.

Check out their “About Quality” pledge near the bottom of the page. Unless you’re opening up a pet shop with some fire alarm devices, I think something got lost in the translation.

And on their company profile page:
“…20 professional foreign trade sales are ready to service every customer with much pleasures.”
Let me tell you, I never get this kind of commitment from ADI! May just have to switch suppliers!

Gotta love the Engrish!

And a LED? Might find one online and then a REAL BG-12

Sounds like every service call finishes with a happy ending!

But for some serious laughs, google some Chinese to English translations. Some of the signs they have in public spaces are a real hoot.
