Fortunately for jcp, things have improved a bit for them since they ousted Ron Johnson.
I have know idea, I will have to check the next time I go.
Haha funny story about department stores – If I am in the South Portland / Maine Mall area with my mother and she says “I want to go to Kohl’s” I always do everything I can to stop her.
Why? I always end up sitting in the Panera across the parking lot from Kohl’s in Westbrook for nearly 3 hours surfing the web on the wifi every time she says that.
As for my answer to the topic, I haven’t shopped at a Kmart in about 6 years so I can’t say anything for them, except that the one Kmart I have been in looked like a glorified Walmart and had an overdone fire alarm system. If anyone wants to know, I’ll post it in Fire Alarms in Buildings.
I prefer Target to tell you the truth, the store is much cleaner, it’s quieter, and the people are nice.
This is compared to the local Walmart which is a dump… it stinks, it’s dirty, and a lot of the employees act like they want to leave as quick as possible. Not all Walmart stores are like that though, I went in a “SmalMart” – what I call Walmart stores that do not have a food store or 40+ registers on the front end, this store had less than 10… anyway it was quiet and VERY clean. The people there were really nice. It didn’t seem like I was inside a Walmart!
Your mom is just like our moms, and our moms are just like a lot of moms.
I actually think I would prefer Target, I change my mind. I’ve heard people say that Target also carries higher quality products than Walmart, I haven’t been there in forever, so I couldn’t say for sure. I would go to Target, but there is only one close by my house, and it is small.
The Walmarts in Jacksonville, FL are like that. The Walmarts nearby me have clean facilities, and friendly service. My favorite Walmart, which is also the largest, never has any twinkling lights, and very few of them are burnt out. They must have a good maintenance crew.
Another Walmart close by is not as maintained, and it looks like some of the new electrical work was done by a monkey. I’ve seen a random wire dangling from truss beam to truss beam, and it wasn’t even secured or at least neat. There is also a splice done with a wire nut out in the open, not secured or in any kind of box, just hanging from the beams. Also, I’ve seen a few crazy receptacles. One receptacle, for example had a wire from the ceiling going down behind the receptacle plate, into the electrical box. There was one bad receptacle, but I forgot what was wrong with it. :?

I’m curious about. My local Kmart until relatively recently didn’t have a clear fire alarm system, just a Federal Signals horn in the back and a gray adaptabel on one of the poles near the foods. They only relatively recently installed Spectralert Advances on the ceiling. The Federal Signals horn and the gray adaptabel are still there.
Whenever my mom goes somewhere, it feels like it takes HOURS for her to be done and I think that is because of how distracted she can get.
Oh look a boat

My mom will always stop in look at anything that is colorful. Some of these stores have gotten smart, and put colorful items on the sides of shelves, or clothing that would draw women’s attention.

Oh look a boat
That is why I will never go shopping with my mother if I can help it.
I have a mother, and two sisters. School shopping can be stressful and exhausting! My sisters aren’t as bad as my mom, though.
The JCPenney at the local mall is finished with the remodel. The store looks nice. The carpet has been taken out in some areas and replaced with wood flooring. There is still carpet in some other areas.
I can confirm that there is still carpet in some areas of JCP. Oddly enough, the tile floor that covers the walkway cuts off, and there is glossed concrete going the rest of the walkway. It is done in a very ugly fashion, and there is still spray paint on the concrete from when the area was being constructed. Also, it looks like a fire alarm system has been installed there. The NA’s are white ceiling mount SpectrAlert Advanced’s mounted above the walkway that goes around the store. The pull stations are BG-12’s (I didn’t see the brand name quick enough) next to the exits, covered by Stopper stations.
This thread is a little old, but I felt like the information was important, and it is less than a month old.
Where have you been? lol…
June 12 is over a month and 3/4th of a month ago.

And to some of us, half of the summer.
I go back to school sometime in September so my summer is pretty much over already.
Oops. Sorry! I skipped July.
My summer ends in a week.

My JCPenney also now has glossed concrete for part of the walkway. I found it pretty odd myself.
The part in the shopping area that is actually smooth, and does not have spray paint, looks nice. The part on the walkway just looks weird.
