What alarm do you have at work/school

What system do you think is going up? Also, I take it you are out of school already?

My current school, which is a tenant in an office building.
For privacy reasons, I will N-O-T post the name or location, so please DO NOT ASK. Just don’t be an obsessed idiot! If you think you know the name or location, then please refrain from posting it.
The panel is a Notifier NFS2-640 with voice-evacuation, located in the main lobby. (Before the school moved in, the panel was an AFP-200)
The initiating devices on the 1st and 2nd floors (occupied by the school) are NBG-12LX’s and FSP-851’s, and they are BGX-101L’s and SDX-551’s on the 3rd and 4th floors (not occupied by the school.)
The main lobby has beam detectors.
The signals in all school areas and the building lobby are SpectrAlert Advance speaker/strobes, and in the upstairs offices, as well as the building’s cafe, are SpectrAlert (both Classic and Advance) horn/strobes. There are remote strobes in restrooms and small offices.
ALL signals are wall-mount, except for a ceiling speaker/strobe in the main lobby.
The speaker/strobes do a code-3 tone with no message (why??), and the horn/strobes do code-3.
The speaker/strobes are really quiet, but the horn/strobes can be heard from outdoors!
IDK why they upgraded the system to voice-evacuation when the school moved in (around 2011), especially if the speaker/strobes don’t do any message!

I could never get a school and a business sharing the same building. It just seems like it would be really weird.

Once you get used to it, it’s actually not weird at all!
But let’s stay on topic.

Yes, I’ve been out of school for eight days now. I will say though I was pretty amazed that the majority of the school was gutted in just three days (the “big” renovation work began on Monday). There was some minor work going on for a few weeks before I got out of school to prepare for the bigger projects, but nothing that really affected any of my school day.
As for the fire alarm system, I’d anticipate an addressable Notifier system just like the “old” system (installed June 2016), but as for the notification appliances I’m really not sure. I believe Minnesota now requires voice-evacuation for schools but it’s very possible horn/strobes will be installed, since this isn’t technically a new school. If the system does in fact have voice-evacuation, I’d anticipate System Sensor SP-series devices, but if the school has horn/strobes I’d anticipate either System Sensor L-series or SpectrAlert Advance-series devices. Of course, my district doesn’t really have a consistent fire protection company that they work with, and various fire alarm system upgrades at other district schools over the past few years have included EST, Siemens, and Gamewell-FCI devices, so really the system could be just about anything.

IIRC, the old WTC had 2 inside of the complex.

Yeah I do understand that a lot and I know that it happens but I just have a problem seeing it.

Already posted my School’s alarms previously, but they just got a food court renovation, and only changed a couple of the devices in there. It used to be a couple simplex 4904-9105 on a backplate over by where you pay for the food. Now that that’s gone, there are two ceiling mounted Wheelock red Exceeder horn/strobes or strobes located above the checkout. I didn’t see the rest but I’ll update on it once I get back to school on Monday.

Was the whole school updated or just that area?

Just the area. Everything else still has 9838s or 9105s

9105s are strobe plates and not horns. Do you mean 9805s?

He probably means “9838s on 9105s”.

Elementary:
Panel: Probably Fire Lite or Notifier
Smoke detectors: TBA
Pull Stations: BG-10’s/12
Notification appliances: EST Integrity Horn Strobes

Junior High:
Panel: Notifier NFS-320 for main area:SK- 4 in Gym 2
Smoke detectors: System Sensor i3
Pull Stations: BG-12/NBG-12(L) (& BG-10 in Gym 2)
Notification appliances: Wheelock NS-24MCW-FR, Wheelock RSS-24MCW-FR, Wheelock MTWP-2475W-FR, Wheelock HSR, Wheelock HSRC, and SpectrAlert SCW. Gym 2: Wheelock MT-24-LSM.

High School :
Panel: Most likely Notifier NFW.
Smoke detectors: NFP-851
Pull Stations NOT BG-12(L)
Notification appliances: System Sensor PC2W, P2W, P2WK, SCW, and SW, with P2R and SR in Vocational and Freshman buildings and 2 Faraday 5640 and 1 Faraday light below one horn.

Elementary School had a Simplex System, with Simplex 4903-9219 horn strobes in all of the built hallways and classrooms, which were pretty loud as I presume. I believe they also had these mechanical horns in the bathrooms too, as when I revisited the school when my sister did a tour, I used the bathroom and there was a horn strobe right above the urinals, RIP. Smoke detectors are 2908-9201s and pulls are 2099-9795s.

In the newer parts of the elementary school and the intermediate school there were Simplex TrueAlert 4906-9127 horn strobes in all the hallways and classrooms. These were the ones I and the rest of my class were deathly afraid of and would cover our ears during a drill. There were strobes in the bathrooms thankfully. Smoke detectors are Simplex TrueAlarm 4098-9714s and the pull stations are Simplex 4099-9001s.

Middle School was most likely an Edwards System, with Gentex SHG horn strobes in the hallways and gym, as well as Gentex GX-90 horn/strobes in the classrooms, bathrooms, and pretty much anywhere else you can cram an alarm into, which leads to me seeing a GX-90 in a tiny storage room! In some of the renovated areas, you could see Commander 3s in some areas where the older alarms died, but what was surprising was if an alarm died in a classroom, a Commander 3 strobe would be in there instead of a horn-strobe, which was relieving because I had a class in one of those rooms. I forgot what the smoke detectors were, but all the pull stations were Edwards Signaling MPSRs. One thing I think was is that before the SHGs/GX-90s, the alarms were Federal Signal Vibratone 450Ds with VALS non-ADA strobes screwed in. Why I think this is because in two areas in the hallways, there appears this alarm, one in a long hallway, and one by an exit door. Not only this, but in one of my classes in 7th grade had this alarm INSIDE THE CLASSROOM. I never heard it go off in there, but I did walk past one going off during a fire drill, and it was easily louder than the SHGs.

High School has two buildings, one with a Siemens FireFinder system (it’s having issues, the alarms went off 4 times in two weeks), and one with a Simplex 4010 system.

The Siemens building has Siemens ZH ceiling mounted horn strobes in the hallways, classrooms, and one large bathroom. There are occurring wall mounted ZHs as well, and there’s an RSS rebranded by Siemens in the boys’ locker room. (Originally, the building had U-MMTs, MTLs, and AS rebrands. There were strobes in the classrooms.) Detectors are Siemens HFP-11s and pulls are Siemens MSM-Ks with Stopper II covers.

The other building has Simplex 2901-9846 horns on 4903-9105 strobe plates and TrueAlert 4906-9127s. In classrooms, bathrooms, and smaller areas, the alarms are either 4904-9105 strobes, or TrueAlert 4906-9101 strobes. Newly renovated areas have Wheelock ceiling mounted Exceeder horn-strobes and strobes. Odd alarms are 2901-9840 and 4901-9805s in place of the usual 9846s, a 4904-9137 strobe in a bathroom instead of a 9105 strobe, and a weatherproof Wheelock MT in the pool locker rooms. Detectors are TrueAlarm 4098-9714s and pulls are 4099-9001s with Stopper II covers.

I am so glad I never had to deal with any SpectrAlert Advances in the schools.

So you said the building with the 9846s was the NEWER building. Did the OLDER building also have 9846s before the ZHs, U-MMTs, MTLs, and AS rebrands?

I have no idea, though. My theory is before those alarms, it might’ve been Edwards Adaptabels, as there is one by a large doorway where the busses drop us off, and another one in an older hallway that has had no renovation other than carpeting and alarm replacement. (I believe the 9846s came with the newer building.)

I assume the Adapabels are disconnected?

I am assuming the newer wing was built around 1993-1995, that is when the -9846’s and 4903-9104’s were put in at my school.

Yep, 1994! They’re constructing way more onto it after Labor day and from the looks of it the new N/As are going to be ceiling mounted Exceeders. (It’s better than Advances/'L’s atleast)

Yes. When the alarms went off for the third time I walked out the doorway where the bells were and they were silent.
