Share about what lighting systems your city or local area has.
Almost all of the street lights in my city are now LED. For a while, it looked pretty cool on the streets, as they were replacing the HPS fixtures with LEDs as they failed, but they were not replacing them before they failed. By now, they have almost all failed. There is still one main road in my city that got new HPS fixtures right before they stopped installing new ones, so most of them are still in service. Unfortunately, they are completely redoing half of the road, and they took down all of the light poles in that area. They will install new LED lights in that area when they finish it next year. The other half of the road will start construction when the finish the first half, so those HPS lights that are still in service will likely only be there for another couple of years.
To start my city has a few lights owned by the power company that used to be a high pressure sodium, mercury vapor, and metal halide. They are long gone and replaced by cheap LEDs.
It is a different story for Milwaukee Wi. There are lots of lighting systems and fixtures old and new.
The most common ones are 15 or 30 watt NEMA or Barn light HPS and in rare case MH.
These are also found in the alleyways
Also common ones are these lights. (I forgot what they called)
There are also lots of cobra heads on more major roads.
Finally some of the more iconic lights are these. I simply call them the “Milwaukee Lights” because they are common here and in the surrounding areas.
Most are still HPS or MH, but some are getting replaced by LEDS
Some cool mentions are the lights on the parkways
For some odd reason on one of the parkways all the HPS lights were replaced by newer HS NEMA lights
BUT this year they added some LEDs to make the area brighter? they kept the LEDs and theNEMAs together for a while for some reason.
Another cool thing is the tunnels they have rows of HPS floods that turn that are off or on at random times. And there are usually about 5 lighting circuits.
And when finding a picture. In one of the tunnel you can see one circuit come on and after the lights warmed up another circuit shut off leaving a good afterglow.
HERE (Move around the tunnel)
Milwaukee is putting in LEDs on major roads and on Interstates. and when replacing the lights on I-94 they forgot to take down the HPS lights under the bridges and they sit there disconnected.
The some dumb electricians forgot to replace the cycling HPS floods lighting up a mural.
Can you guess where the mural is?
So yea it took me a long time to do this post.
