I have a Pioneer 200-watt Amplifier connected to an alarm speaker and it is connected to a MacBook Pro running OS X but it would work on Windows and Linux. But it does work great.

Where can I fine the amp?
Try radio Shack they might have them
I got the amp from a person who collects them. So I got mine for free.
Yes, you could use your stereo system. Just wire the fire alarm speaker as you would with one of the stereo’s speakers. If it sounds distorted, you might need to lower the wattage on the speaker itself.
If you want to play sounds from a computer or iDevice, buy a 1/8" to RCA cable (or 1/8" to whatever input jack type your stereo system has) to connect to your stereo.
Make sure you DO NOT use the transformer that comes with the speaker strobes. You wire the amplifier directly to the speaker and make sure the ohm impedance matches.
Thanks
