I feel like every system that has these detectors on it has already has at least five fail. i know they aren’t that old, so are they just more prone to failure?
Are you talking about the newer SD365 instead? As far as I know the SD355 is quite reliable.
These. i can’t recall which exactly it is, but it’s one of these.
The bottom one is an SD355 for sure, the top one is its Notifier counterpart if I’m not mistaken. Both are fairly reliable as far as I know though.
Top one is an FSP-851… Either way there is nothing wrong with either of the detectors mentioned. Like all electronics, some go bad over time. That’s why they are tested regularly. The largest factor as to why they might fail is due to the environment they are in.
Yeah.
What exactly gave you the idea that SD355s are unreliable @electromaniac_guy?
I have seen several instances where these detectors have gone bad, one of which was in a pretty big number.
Even in a place where antiques are stored in the open? If it was just one detector, i could understand that it may have failed, but several were replaced, implying something either happened to those detectors specifically, or they are of poor enough quality to fail in larger numbers over a somewhat short time.
The SD355 and the FSP851 are pretty solid
I mean, my building has had several FSP-851s fail, but they are likely over a decade old at this point. And when we have had the panel powered down a few times due to the building’s power being turned off (because we have been having HVAC upgrades the past few summers) and I know at least one detector failed after power was restored.
