What’s the difference between 2-wire and 4-wire alarms and smoke detectors? I’ve seen people talk about it on YouTube videos but I never understood what it meant.
Two wire means its just zone + and zone - four wire means you have power+ and power- as well as zone+ and zone- hope this clears it up for you
That’s with a relay that’s different then wiring it the way he wants it
On alarms, 2-wire means that the alarm get all it’s power from one power connection. Everything on the alarm is powered by the same thing. On 4-wire alarms, the parts of the alarm get powered separately. For example, a 4-wire horn/strobe has power connections for the horn, and different power connections for the strobe. 2 power wires to the horn, and 2 power wires for the strobe.
I prefer 4 wire over 2 wire, since you have more options with 4 wire alarms when connected to fire alarm panels.
My bad! Watch the “Introduction to Fire Alarms Part 12: Four-Wire Smoke Detectors”, it’s the one in his series before the one with the relays. Sorry!
no its ok i just wanted to point out that it is a wrong video for what he is doing
