This Wheelock Bell Systems bell is up for grabs, IT DOES NOT WORK, it takes 18vac for the bell and either the eBay seller cooked it in 120 vac because when I accidentally plugged it into 120vac nothing happened. Or it just died instantly when I did. (It literally cost me 10$ to buy it) It comes with the phone relay without the phone cord. Contact me if you would like this item. I live south west of Columbus ohio (I live in grove city).
Are you sure its damaged? Those are usually used as auxillary ringers for old telephone systems in noisy areas. The terminal strip was connected to the standard telephone line and when the phone rang, the voltage was sent to the aux bell and it rang too. If you still have a landline at your house it would be easy to test. Or apply the proper voltage to the terminal strip with the speaker plugged into 120vac.
I do not have a landline at my house (my house is 3, years old) but when I first tested this, I took it apart and unplugged the bell from the relay box into the main power outlet inside. (And I completely missed the warning tag of do not plug into 115 AC) And it made no sound. I even put 18 volts DC, the correct full voltage minus the ac across the plug and the striker made no movement.
The bell is so powered by an external power source, the phone like operates the relay that turns the bell on. This has a standard 3 prong plug on the cord for a 120 volt outlet, but this would have been plugged into a standard outlet but only 18 volts. Telephone ring voltage is 90 Volts AC at 20 HZ, which is above the bell mechanism specs
Put a meter on the bell’s plug with it disconnected and measure resistance. If its zero, the coil is open and the wiring is probably damaged from the high voltage.
Okay, I will try that at some point, hopefully soon
