Where to Get products

I don’t think that he is trying to defer him from starting a collection. I think he is only saying that it is not as easy as it seems.

He has been given plenty of trash alarms simply by asking for them. So I don’t know why he would feel that way. To be honest, they probably got tired of him hanging around the middle school. He is about 20 years old…

I have given plenty of stuff away for kids doing projects, I even sat down with a group doing a fire safety project and gave them a full setup that we had kicking around. I am not a fan of doing anything to deter anyone from anything unless it’s dangerous.

I stand by my recommendations that I have given dozens of times over. See an alarm guy? Ask for old stuff. Have a local alarm company? Call them up, ask to speak to someone in the technical department and explain your interest. They may even invite you out to check out the central station, and tour the facility if they have one. You will probably walk away with a few alarm items.

When I was 12 or so years old I asked the crew working on traffic lights how to get one. I was out with a group of friends on our bikes. After we called my mum they dropped one off at my house. They went out of their way for me just simply to be nice. There are people that are just that… nice! The worst they can say is no. Be safe about it and use common sense. They crew was impressed with my knowledge of electrical systems at such a young age, starting a conversation and showing you have a genuine interest and knowledge and curiosity can go a long way.

That happened to me once, when I got a tour of Fire-Lite! They gave me a BG-12 and a http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/I2wZEGlqKKk/mqdefault.jpg NIB Speaker strobe.

Yes, both are quite new. However, the latter is hard to find, because it is SUPER new.

Oh come on. The alarm devices I have sold were duplicate devices from when I’d get a lot, and I would always start the listing at a low price compared to some of those insanely-priced eBay auctions.

You can find fire alarms on eBay.

I suggest Ebay.

Yeah well, you should probably be careful if you are using eBay. I say that because people on eBay have been known to higher prices so that they can win.

Yes, I found a Commander 3, BG-12LX, MS-2 control panel, MS-9050UD control panel, SD355T smoke detector, PS-SATK pull station, 270-SPO pull station, and more all cheaper bought new from an online store, than used (some new) on eBay.

Yeah. Can be quite expensive on eBay. I’ve run into a few scammers as well. I say, read their reviews, and then you decide.

I try to avoid using eBay, simply because I’m not really made of a lot of money and most things are way higher than their market price.

Have you SEEN the price of a Simplex T-Bar on Simplex’s online store?

Database glitch?

I’m surprised that they still sell break glass T-Bars.

And yeah, I noticed that also.

Nope, my signature.

Like it?

Haha it fooled me. I couldn’t believe that a Y2K bug was still lingering in phpBB.

That’s really the only site I use for finding alarms. I search hard for a good bargain when looking at alarms.

I have to disagree with the statement that most things on eBay are higher than their actual market price. Everything that I have seen on eBay, from fire alarms, to electronics, and even to clothes, has been priced less (or at least the same) as the item’s actual market price.

eBay is an excellent source for finding fire alarms. Just watch out for scams.

I think if anything, I would probably be worried about scams more if I tried to shop on eBay. A lot of the things on their site can sometimes be too good to be true.

What are you talking about?

I have done well over 300 transactions on ebay and almost every single one went perfectly. I had one issue as a buyer and ebay took amazing care of me making sure I got my funds back. As a seller I have done a handfull of high value transactions. I have had two diffrerent buyers try and scam me however in one case ebay had my back in the other I failed to protect my self with photos prior to the auction. Lessons learned but I trust ebay.

Moreover what are you kids buying? A few fire alarms? There is always the risk the alarm is in trouble, changes are it was meant to be trash anyway once it was removed. Look at the sellers feedback and photos. Interpret the description how you want and move from there. If the seller says it works and you pay with paypal, you are typically safe. If it says untested or sold as is, move on if you feel uncomfortable.

In addition to that I have gotten some AMAZING deals on ebay. From special electronics to replacement parts, I have been very happy.
