I’m looking to add new horn / strobe to an old panel that has fast march time and Simplex 2903-9001 rattle horns with lamps. As you can probably guess, the horn “on time” is not quite long enough to activate a new electronic horn / strobe. I’ve tried System Sensor and Wheelock and they both just barely chirp with no strobe. I’ve heard that Gentex may work but thought I’d ask before ordering one. Thanks!
You need 4 wire devices. You might not need a strobe of its a grandfathered system.
I’ll leave it up to an Admin or Mod for the usual precautionary safety questions regarding qualifications to work on the system and liabilities, but in the meantime, what other information do you have about the system? Does the panel have two power feeds to the Notification Appliances, or is it a single NAC operating both the audibles and the visual lamps? If there are two feeds, lilrags16 is correct in that a proper four wire device will work. This would leave only the horn issue. What alarms have you tried on the system? Some modern alarms automatically code themselves to Code-3, and/or cannot be coded from an outside device. Examples of these are the Wheelock AS/NS line and some of the System Sensor Spectralerts. However, if there is only one power feed to the devices, there is more of an issue than can be fixed easily.
