Who would I talk to about this!...

My school is being tore down and I want the panel. Many of my friend have got their panel from old buildings.Who should I contact?

Maybe try contacting a school secretary or administrator to put you in contact with the right maintenance person before the building is demoed. Or, you could ask what demolition company is handling the job, wait until you see a fence around the property, and then deal with that company directly. Either way, just explain that you’d like to salvage the fire alarm panel and could remove it yourself if necessary.

You might want to think about payment. Demolition companies are used to dealing with salvagers and would probably be far more open to giving you the panel if you compensated them for it, especially since they may not allow you to enter the building and might have to remove it themselves. Remember that the school has no real incentive to do anything outside of the normal ecosystem, including accepting money for a one-off purchase on the unsolicited offer of a third party. Since their finances are done differently than a for-profit business, there might not even be a structure or precedent for doing such a thing. If you manage to get anywhere with the school, there’s a good chance they would give to to you for free. If so, they may ask you to fill out a property release form and have it approved as a formality.

Finally, many schools have large public auctions where they sell off old surplus items. If all else fails, you might be able to nudge the school administration to save the panel for auction and then bid on it. The stuff is usually very cheap.

Good luck!

Destin beat me to it

Try to get the demolition company contact person. They should remove the panel (as well as other parts of systems) since it is electronic waste which contains hazardous substances, so it must be removed to be properly disposed. Instead of them putting them in a pile to send to a proper disposal facility they can give them to you. You will be doing them a favor (although it may not be a big one).

According to a former member, usually they don’t bother to remove the alarms when they knock down a building.

When I got my BG-6 pulls from the old high school, I asked many people in the school department… I ended up asking the demolition foreman and he sent someone in to take care of it.

Well Im %100 sure this wont happen lol.We have never done it before. It’s because we just build a new school.
Destin If I could ask. After I have got contact of the demolition team from the school,If they say yes. Will I need any thing else from the school,or just the demolition team.

Now i fell so stupid,After I sent a email out to the superintendent,The child told me He wasnt being for real.I felt stupid talking on the phone with central office about it. No panel any time soon lol :frowning:

What is that supposed to mean?

Oh and for the record,

100%. It doesn’t work like money.

%100 %100 No thans I dont pay to go to school for nothing;this isnt my school page,It’s a fire alarm site  If you would like to help with the topic please do,but other wise please dont be saying other stuff

What is that supposed to mean?

It means he wasnt for real,As I stated above. He was just kidding around.

I’m sorry I was very rude,I just dont let people correct me and point stuff out that I know.

So hold on. It’s hard to understand what’s going on in this thread.
You’re saying that a friend told you that they were going to tear down the school? And you believed him/her? Are you really 13?

Why do you need my age? And yes,I did

Because we want to know, No offense but you don’t act 13.

How old do I act? And I just turned 13.And dont say no offence.

I don’t know anything about you personally, so I’m sorry if this is an extenuating circumstance, but you abide by very few English grammar rules. I’m sorry if I offend you for any reason whatsoever, but you try to act like the forum police while typing like a seven-year-old.
You ask very rudimentary questions (which is perfectly OK) but then get offended when someone suggests something different than what you wanted to hear.

You have NO RIGHT to dictate what people say on here.

Okay guys! This is now going nowhere very fast.
