Whoops

I broke it because I was to short to grab it. The tip of my fingers turned it, and then it fell off the ceiling and shattered. I got most of it back together but I can’t get the battery tray back in… Oh well

it was going off because some smoke from someone burning something outside got into the room through the window AC

Wish I could you tips &/or instructions on how to fit the battery drawer back on properly, but I don’t have one for reference so I can’t. I still wish you the best of luck in doing so though! (does the unit as a whole still work?)

It did before but now it doesn’t because of the drawer being broke.

Oh, right, because that’s the only way you can power it right now. If you have an AC connector for the unit & known how to safely wire it however you could power it that way in the meantime.

There are no smoke alarm wires ran to that room. And if I hook it up to ac, it starts going off. But on just battery it’s fine.

Well smoke detector collectors commonly use special AC power cords that can be plugged into a wall outlet to power AC & AC/DC detectors, but you should only use one if you know what you’re doing & can do so safely (including making sure the connection between the cord & connector is solid & covered with wire nuts).

I do know how but i don’t feel like doing it.

Update: my dad fixed it using his magical dad powers… Lol. He just used a butter knife.

Does this void the UL listing? You should probably get a new smoke alarm when you can. Since it is not being AC-powered, a sealed 10 year battery would provide the best safety since a battery-only smoke alarm cannot chirp after its battery is fully depleted or if the battery connection fails.

idk. i just needed a detector to go in that room so i threw that one up real quick to get it done.
