Why do they call it a remote strobe?

Okay, I honestly have no idea why they call it this, but I’ll ask it anyway…Why do they call it a remote strobe?

A remote strobe is used in conjunction with a local smoke alarm (s) for the hard of hearing. For instance you might find a remote strobe in the bedroom where deaf person lives even though it is a single family home with one level.

Remote normally means alone or empty, and a remote strobe is just by its self. No horn or speaker.

That’s also why the call a horn by it self a remote horn.
