is that one brk branded or first alert branded?
It’s BRK last time I checked.
I snagged the deal on the Gillette 941 that I found for sale today, as you can see that it’s no longer available. It should arrive by the 10th at the earliest, but the 19th at the latest so hopefully y’all will see a post about it within that timeframe!
Hopefully I’ll be getting my Gillette 941CA within the next few days!
Hopefully, Also I almost forgot about it ![]()
Awesome! Did the other one not have that unique “Epc | GENTEX” label though? (also, have you replaced both units with newer ones so that the house those two Gentex detectors came from is still protected?)
Nice!
This one’s a normal Gentex rather than EPC.
I have already installed a First Alert SM210 in that hallway before I removed the Gentex
Oh, okay. Odd if you ask me that one would be labeled like that while the other would not be though. Do the labels on their backs differ at all by the way?
Alright, great! Doesn’t that mean there’s still a spot without a detector though? (since of course you took down two detectors rather than just one)
They don’t, really the only difference is the install date code and it’s a bit filthy even after a little wipedown
The downstairs hallway where the EPC branded one was already has a Universal smoke/CO combo of some kind
That dark spot on the ceiling in the entryway is the bracket where that EPC Gentex was originally installed
Oh, alright. Huh…
Oh okay. Might want to put a plate or something over the hole so that it’s not visible though, heh.
Thought I’d also ask:
Do you have the mounting plates & AC connectors for those detectors?
Do they seem to have any sort of horn in them?
And here’s something that’s not a question but that I’ll state anyway (heh):
Weirdly enough between their lack of horn grilles & what their labels say, it almost seems like those are commercial Gentex detectors that were installed in a residential home! (which would render them useless since with no horns they’d have no way of alerting occupants)
They don’t, they are system detectors which were originally wired to that DTI system.
Unfortunately not, but I guess I should probably get those and put a cover over the wiring
Yup. They are indeed system detectors, which like mentioned were originally wired to the currently inactive DTI system in my house. Interestingly, but also confusingly, I don’t think my house has or ever had any sirens or anything like that installed since 1986! Maybe they’re hidden somewhere I can’t find them or maybe in the keypads but I didn’t see any piezo grille on the keypad either.
Ah okay. Huh…
Yes, indeed.
