Willevation1769’s small collection

I plan on expanding this collection to at least 25 devices but here’s my collection.

Very nice! I especially like the fact that you have so many 4120-series units in your collection as they’re a personal favorite of mine (though as of now I don’t have any: I once had two but didn’t get the mounting brackets & connectors with them so I didn’t consider them worth keeping since they weren’t complete). What’s with the logo label on the Gentex unit, the French sticker on the ESL unit, & the mostly-featureless square unit?

That Gentex unit is an 812T from 1984. The logo on that one I’m pretty sure says EPC + Gentex. I don’t know a thing about EPC but I will link a close-up of it so you can see the logo better. The “mostly-featureless square unit” that you mentioned is my rare Blue Grass Electronics AS-6000-SL, also from 1984, that I uninstalled from the front room of my house. There are 3 of those scattered around my house but I only uninstalled one of them. I don’t know what is the thing with the sticker on the ESL unit.

Ah okay, huh…I can’t seem to find much on them myself, but I did find this other EPC Gentex-branded detector for sale, & you may have opened the door to a manufacturer no one knew about before (I certainly didn’t know about EPC until now!). If only we could just find out more about them now (including what “EPC” means in full, which of course would help us find them easier).

Ah, yeah, as I later found out in that other topic you made, heh.

Oh, alright. You wouldn’t by any chance happen to live in Canada would you? (since of course it’s the one country in North America that has French as one of its national languages)

I don’t live in Canada. I later found out that sticker is French for “do not paint” as labeled on the alarm itself.

Oh btw I have another Gentex smoke/heat detector (yes, smoke AND heat detector) that’s in my upstairs hallway and still installed to this day since 1986 which was the year my house was built, just not used. The manufacturing year was 1984. This one’s just Gentex, not EPC branded as you will see in the photos.

Oh, okay, no idea why it has that sticker then (unless it came from a Canadian household: where did you get it from exactly?).

Yeah, so did I.

Oh? You ought to remove, replace, & save it as well given both are way past their expiration date of 10 years.

I got the ESL from my Grandpa’s house a few years ago

My dad wouldn’t let me remove the other Gentex unit because I already have one of them. I know, it’s a stupid reason. My parents are just really strict for who knows what reason. Same stupid rule probably goes for the other 2 AS-6000-SLs that are still installed.

Ah okay. Huh, no idea where that label could have come from then.

Seriously? You need to make him aware of why it’s important to replace smoke detectors every 10 years, which both of those Gentex units are way overdue for. As for the glassbreak detectors, well, if the security system they’re hooked to isn’t being used, maybe it’d be okay to remove them as well (provided you convinced you parents to let you do so of course).

These Gentex units aren’t currently in use, but I’m assuming I should still just convince my parents to get that thing the heck off the ceiling because these are 41 years old, just a single smoke alarm lifespan younger than my dad himself lol. Plus I can then add another device to my collection. As for the AS-6000-SLs, they should probably be uninstalled in case I end up getting a new security system.

The whole security system itself isn’t in use anymore, but at least we have a Ring video doorbell so we know how to describe someone from video footage in case someone breaks in. Any recommendations for a new security system?

Exactly.

Ah okay. DSC: they make some very customizable systems as I’ve experienced first-hand (as I have a DSC security panel & it’s very customizable indeed).

Oh, nearly forgot: I found these two EPC-branded devices, but I don’t believe they have anything to do with the EPC that once apparently collaborated with Gentex (still thought I’d share their discovery anyway though).

Gentex Commander 3 acquired for Christmas

Nice! Gentex’s Commander-serieses are always nice (the pre-Commander 5 ones anyway). Now if you can just find a nameplate for it it’ll be complete! (& thankfully I don’t think such a thing should be too difficult to find: heck if you email Gentex you might be able to have them send you one!)

Check out what my friend gave to me during SSRT study time today in school! The Simplex “weatherproof” TrueAlert, but oh my god the freaking irony. Weathering aside, this is quite cool and I’m grateful for it.

Neat! Don’t worry too much about the weathering though: not only does it add character to the device & make it stand out from others (not to mention show how long it’s been in service for), but some of it might be able to be cleaned off with enough work. Does it work fully? (provided it’s free-run or selectable of course: make sure to check such via this)

During school they gave you it? (instead of after?)

My friend told me that it doesn’t but I’ll have to see gor myself.

Yup.
