As of 09/25/2024, WVCY TV has switched over to HDTV broadcasting, and with that, they have also upgraded their EAS equipment from their original long-time VDS 840 character generator, which was paired with a SAGE 3644, to just a plain boring old DASDEC with a boring scroll.
We will miss the VDS 840, and I hope we can find some other station that has that same pair up. At least we caught the 2023 National Test on there while they still had their VDS 840/SAGE 3644 equipment.
Imagine a DASDEC integrated into a fire alarm system. Would such a setup like this work?
There are quite definitely ways to integrate video messaging into building scale MNS/EVACS systems. You could use a General Purpose Input on a central overlay generator like the DASDEC to accept a relay trigger from the FA system for an application where lots of displays within the building are receiving a common master video feed, or you could push the functionality out to individual signage players accepting FA/MNS trigger signals if you had cases (such as transit stations) where the video displays may need to display different things in the course of normal operation.
