Alarms on TV/Movies

I can remember an episode of Dallas where a smoke alarm sounds, well thanks to TVTropes I found it, at least the episode before the one I remember.

S6E28 Ewing Inferno. It features an SA120 with a modified light (bulb is producing a white colored light) doing 5/6.

The episode I remember must have been S7E1 where another lower pitched alarm is also heard near the bedrooms.

I have never seen this episode. My parents used to watch this show all the time back then and I checked the date of this episode which is May 6th, 1983. That is a very bright light but definitely a dubbed in sound because the SA120’s did a faster pulse.

I can’t count how many alarms I’ve seen on “Law and Order”. Here are the coolest finds:

  1. Rikers Island Correctional Facility
When the camera pans the right way, you can see what looks like an old IBM panel.
  2. Main Office
There is a space age AV plate with a mechanical horn, and above that is a bell.
  3. Plenty more I could not think of!

Friends S7 E12 (First Alert SA67B, modified)

SA67B has a red LED.

Alarm is seen being pulled off a bracket with wires. (The actual alarm itself isnt wired)

Bracket and Wires, like in above.

Alarm is seen with a Red LED with wires glued to the clear test button.

I just looked up that part too haha

In the trailer for “Turning Red,” at 1 minute 56 seconds, there is a fire alarm that almost looks like an Amseco horn/strobe, but has a differently-shaped strobe and no “FIRE” lettering.

Also, it’s a horn/strobe in a bathroom.

Oh yeah, interesting…neat how unlike most fire alarms in media they actually based it off an actual real-life device (though it appears to be on a ridiculously huge backbox, & as you said it’s in a bathroom).

I also have another picture from the same trailer, showing a similar alarm and a hard-to-see pull station (the lower red box) (This pic was in the deep background of a scene and therefore is very blurry.)

Also these alarms may or may not be designed after the Amseco devices, but it’s possible.

Also, that is a huge backbox.

More: In a season 5 episode of The Office (Stress Relief), you can clearly see the character of Dwight pull an Edwards 270-SPO pull station.

Also, when he pulls the pull station, it almost sounds like there is a break rod equipped.

I’m pretty sure someone already mentioned the 270-SPO on The Office some years ago, but unlike you they did not provide a picture.

Not sure why the studio would have bothered with a break-rod, but maybe there was one in it.

Just now I noticed that the pull is mounted very high up, definitely too high up for ADA regulations, & the location it’s in is also somewhat odd (above a fire extinguisher cabinet no less).

I thought it was too high up to meet regulations. Also, 270-SPOs appear in other episodes.

Also, CarsonFireAlarm, do you watch The Office?

That I wouldn’t know, as I’ve only ever seen this one part of whatever episode this scene is part of.

Nope.

I find it funny the movie is based in Toronto, Ontario, and here, a lot of schools have Mircom systems with Mircom FHS-240Rs.

Ah, that right there might explain the choice of alarm.

I get it now. I googled it and it looks similar.

More content: In the Big Nate short “Theater Antics”, at 0:27, you can see a Simplex T-bar that is mounted absurdly high on the wall, above the top of the lockers.

And even more content: In a teaser for Turning Red, there is this pull station which looks like a cross between a Simplex T-Bar and a Fire-Lite BG5

Several types of Japanese PA fire horns would shout out “Ka-ji-de-su! Ka-ji-de-su!”(Fire! Fire!) once triggered.

Maybe it’s been installed here as a helping bell of the barrier-free toilet?

What are you talking about? I’m pretty sure it’s a fire alarm signal.
