Discourse v2026 Update Thread

I’ve decided to start (if I remember) posting when we update the forum software, Discourse. This week, I got it updated to the latest stable release, and it supports new features. While not all of these features are relevant to our forums, it’s worth sharing what is (2026.1.0): Changelog | Discourse Releases

Today, we have bumped to the latest patch release which just includes security fixes (2026.1.1): Changelog | Discourse Releases

Today, we have bumped to the latest patch release which just includes security patches and minor fixes (2026.1.2): Changelog | Discourse Releases

We have switched to Discourse’s monthly release track. Along with this release, the default theme has been switched to ‘Horizon’ so things may look a little different. Users who wish to use the older theme, it’s available under your user settings. More context on that transition can be seen here: Feedback Request: Updated Default Theme

I really appreciate that you can switch back. While it’s important to keep things up to date, options to not change things are always good.

I tried switching back to the classic theme and uh…

Is it supposed to have those weird outlines all over the place?

Classic is different. The theme you’re looking for is called ‘Default’ (Ironically as it’s not the default)

@Alexis_T I renamed it to simply ‘Discourse’ to try to prevent confusion in the future.

Discourse Classic is the Original Discourse theme before we even switched to it for our forum software. So ‘Discourse’ is the theme you want to select now

Although I did eventually figure it out, I had that same issue. Thanks for fixing it.

Oh alright :joy: thanks for clearing that up.

Though it still shows up as “Discourse classic” for me  unless I need to clear my browsers’ cache.

I’m currently away from my PC, so I cannot test there.

Edit: I’ve set it to default now, and it’s back to what it was before Horizon… I’m not very familiar with Discourse.

Nested replies are now available in the forum.

This update introduced one new beta feature: New post reply count position for sites using Reactions - Announcements - Discourse Meta

Oh, is that why the site was down for quite a few minutes just now? Alright then…

Yes. The server it runs on itself also needed a pretty big update. Realized I probably could’ve reduced the downtime a bit but:

The time the server went down for the work was at 3:39 PM EST
First came back at 4:22 PM EST, for about a 43 minute downtime.

There was just another brief few minutes it was down, but I’m all done touching things for now.

Updated to 2026.6.0

There is a chance the forums will experience some minor slow downs over the next day or so as we work through some maintenance and upgrades on the back end.
