I wasn’t sure if we ever had a topic like this (tried looking for it), but what are the main fire alarm brands in your city?
The main one for the most part in my city is Edwards/Mirtone. Their systems have been found pretty much everywhere. Today, not so much. You can still find tons of Edwards/Mirtone components in systems (such as pulls/smokes/sometimes alarms), but for the most part they have been replaced with new panels, and new alarms. Most newer/replaced systems are now Mircom, Simplex, or what I’ve been seeing more recently, Notifier. There are still some newer Edwards systems installed, but not as much as before.
Down here in Miami we got Notifier and Fire-Lite systems on most new buildings (2012-current). Also we have Simplex on huge buildings like malls, schools, and even stadiums (2000-current). Usually the most common alarms are usually Wheelock As’s with BG-12’s or System Sensor-Spectra Alert advanced with BG-12’s or another arrangement of pull station’s.
We have a good mix around here. Its not so much the town or city as much as it is the building type and age. In my own town, we have a lot of Fire Lite BG-10s and Gentex SHGs. Simplex is very common in schools and a few other buildings in town, too.
Mostly Notifier (installed by the company I work for) and Simplex here. EST is slowly catching up, unfortunately. There are a few Siemens systems here and there but not a lot. GWFCI systems are few and far between due to the last ESD in the area going out of business, and Fire-Lite shows up at random.
here it’s all notifier, simplex, and siemens. we have a few legacy EST installations but nobody bidding new ones ever, I’m not sure they have a dealer in town. Oddly enough we only have one notifier dealer (in other cities I’ve been in anyone could get on with notifier it seems, the guys here got it locked down somehow), one main simplex outfit, and two siemens outfits. i can’t think of anyone else really, those 3 probably control 95% of the mid-large business.
all of the smaller buildings that only require manual stations or smaller systems are probably fire-lite, silent knight, or something similar (like restaurants, strip malls, etc.). i don’t know the details of those though, not my focus, not our target markets.
Here in Birch Island it’s just Edwards. The school uses EST Genesis G1R-HDVM Horn Strobes set to 30 candela. While the pull stations are EST 270-SPO with a GE logo. The panel is a EST 3.
The community center uses 1 bell and 8 270-SPO’s. The system is a Edwards 2280.
It seems like in Winnipeg, most old systems are Edwards or Mirtone. There are a fair number of Simplex systems, but most new large installations use Siemens or Notifier.
Medium-sized buildings tend to use Mircom, Notifier or EST.
Simplex and Siemens dominate the mid-to-large territory around here. There’s a lot of EST too, though most of the systems I see are 10+ years old. Notifier is not as common here as it seems to be elsewhere, but is growing in dealers. As for small systems, we have plenty of Fire-Lite and SK dealers.
There have been many times in the past where you have called people out for spelling and grammar mistakes. Now, your spelling is starting to get obnoxious, yet you get upset about being corrected. Let’s not be hypocritical. Obviously, mistakes cannot be completly avoided, but please try to keep them to a minimum.
EST, Simplex and Mircom (especially for retrofits) are probably the most common brands in my area. Siemens, whose systems appear to be quite popular for large applications, and Notifier are also very common sights.
At the other end of the spectrum, I’ve only seen three Fire-Lite systems and one Gamewell system, so those two brands are among the rarest around here.
In Quincy, MA its lots of Firelite, FCI, EST and Simplex. Most of the new buildings are getting EST3 and Simplex 4010ES panels. Very large FCI install base of FC-72, 7200, and 7100.
Go into Boston and its tons of Notifier, Simplex, and Firelite. Never see any Siemens or EST in the city anymore.
We are all praying that you spelled that wrong intentionally. I mean, how hard is it to proofread? All the mistakes are underlined in red!
Now for the OP:
Our city has stuck with Simplex since the 60s. Some time in 2002, we ditched Simplex and started using EST in most buildings. Today, Fire-Lite or Notifier setups make up most of the buildings’ fire alarm systems. The newest building I can think of with a working Simplex system to date is my high school, with a Simplex 4100 from 2001.
Was Simplex running a monopoly then? Did recently some other company move in?
EDIT: I Never realized that TapaTalk didn’t show all of you message. And my tablet has horrible autocorrect
