Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

Yeah, I think CLIP devices poll red, with the possible exception of control modules.

The S464A existed in an addressable version during the FS90 era.
There’s also some S464G1007’s (Honeywell-branded BG-12’s) in Terminal 1.

Also, the EST system was replaced with an XLS3000 (a rebranded Notifier NFS2-3030) over the past few years.

Or are you writing about Terminal 2?

I guess I was just writing about the whole airport in general but I did see that XLS-1000 annunciator. That’s good to know!

My info about the XLS3000 upgrade was about Terminal 1, so I’m assuming you were in Terminal 2.

Pulls: XMS-Ds

Detectors: OP921s (Some on DB-ADPTs, replacing FP-11s DI-3s, and a few DI-6s, and others newly installed) At least one FP-11 and one DI-6 (Not accessible during the upgrade so couldn’t be replaced, disconnected)

Biden Welcome Center (Delaware House Travel Plaza) - Newark, DE

Panel: EST Addressable Panel (What appears to be a QuickStart by the annunciators but I’m not so sure)

Pulls: SIGA-270s

Detectors: None (that are visible)

AVs: Genesis wall mount speaker/strobes and speakers as well as Integrity speaker/strobes outside

Frank Sinatra (Atlantic City) Service Area (Garden State Parkway) - Galloway Township, NJ

Panel: Siemens Addressable Panel

Pulls: HMS-Ds

Detectors: None (that are visible)

AVs: ZH-MC-Rs and ZR-MC-Rs

Update: Those empty junction boxes have indeed been filled… with GC-series remote speakers. Seems like they don’t want to rely solely on the PA anymore.

The remote strobes in those common areas were also replaced with G4-series strobes, and a few speaker/strobes.

The rest of the system, including the older Genesis speaker/strobes in tenant spaces, remains intact.

A renovated condominium unit also has a SIGA-HRD and, interestingly enough, Wheelock E90 speakers.

Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) - Melbourne, FL

Panel: Notifier NFS2-3030 tied to a Simplex addressable panel

Pulls: NBG-12LXes

Detectors: TrueAlarms

AVs: SPSWLs, SPSCWLs, and at least one MASS (probably disconnected)

This is a very odd setup.

Did you see the simplex panel?

That looks like they’re in the midst of an upgrade. I’ve seen pictures of this airport, and they had 2901-9838 horns on 4903-9101 strobe plates.

I’ve been there twice over the past few months and nothing has changed but who knows

Palace Theater, Stamford, CT:

  • Panel: EST3
  • Pulls: SIGA-278s (EST branded)
  • N/As: Genesis speaker strobes
  • Detectors: SIGA-PSes

I heard something coming from a nearby building, and turns out it was this Siemens voice evacuation system (Desigo Fire Safety Modular or Cerberus Pro Modular) going off at the Aria Condominiums (this is in Naples, FL). I believe it was being tested. (it was silenced shortly after I started recording)

Well, if you thought the Danbury Mall had a weird system? Well, I present to you all two systems from Stamford, CT that are very diverse!

Ridgeway Mall, Stamford, CT:

Photos are available on my Google Photos album

This building is divided into three blocks: the Staples block (2391-2299 Summer Street), the Stop and Shop/Michael’s/Marshalls/Old Navy block (2200 Bedford St and 2233 Summer St), and the office block (which spans Sixth Street and some of Summer Street).

This is a map of the location (edited by me):

Now, I will explain each block’s systems. But first, we will introduce the panel.

Old Panels: Multiple EST IRC-3s (located at each building entrance and security office)

New Panels: EST3 (located in security office and at the Marshalls building entrance)

I- Staples Block :

Pulls:

  • EST 270-SPO (current)
  • Bosch-rebranded Sigcom T-Bar (old)
  • Fire-Lite BG-10 (old)

N/As:

  • Wheelock MT
  • Gentex Commander 3 (old)
  • System Sensor MASSADA (old)
  • Edwards Integrity Speaker/Strobe

Pulls: Edwards 270-SPO

  • Alarms: Integrity Speaker Strobes and some EST 405 strobes
  • Detectors: Edwards GS photo detectors
  • Duct Detectors: Edwards duct detectors
  • Other Components: IRC-3 annunciators at entrances to each store

Drybar/Amazing Lash Studios (now closed) (AT&T has the same system):

  • Pulls: Fire-Lite BG-12s
  • Alarms: SpectrAlert Advances
  • Detectors: Unknown (either i3s or Edwards GS photo detectors)

Old Navy:

  • Pulls: Fire-Lite BG-12s
  • Alarms: EST Integrity Speaker/Strobes
  • Detectors: Unknown

Former Ashley Furniture (same system is found in Bevmax):

  • Alarms: EST Genesis
  • Detectors: SIGA-PSes

Starbucks:

  • Pulls: Edwards 270-SPOs

III- Summer/Sixth Street Office Block

Majority of the offices/small shops located here:

  • Pulls: EST 270-SPOs
  • Alarms: Integrity Speaker/Strobes
  • Detectors: Edwards GS photo detectors

I do not know a lot about this section because a majority of this is abandoned or “employees only” areas. Also, the loading dock is here also.

Parking Garage:

  • Pulls: Edwards 270-SPOs
  • Alarms: Integrity Speaker/Strobes
  • Detectors: Edwards GS photo detectors

Stamford Town Center, Stamford, CT:

Panel: A large Simplex panel (presumably a 4100U?)

I- Parking Garage

  • Pulls: 4251-30s or 4251-20s
  • Alarms: 4903 speakers on strobe plates

II- Main Mall (and most stores):

  • Pulls: Simplex T-bars
  • Alarms: TrueAlert wall or ceiling speaker/strobes
  • Detectors: TrueAlarm detectors

III- Barnes and Noble/Former H&M

  • Panel: EST3
  • Pulls: GE and EST-rebranded SIGA-278s

  • Detectors: SIGA-PSes

IV- Macy’s

VI- Some Unique Restaurant Systems

  • The Capital Grille- Their system consists of SIGA-278s, Genesis horn/strobes, and SIGA-PS detectors

  • 4th Quarter: Nothing unique, just a normal system with BG-12s and Advances

  • Peter Chang: I do not know, maybe the Simplex system?

  • Pieology: The Simplex mall system is hooked up here.

  • New York Comedy Club: Simplex mall system.

  • Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse: Simplex mall system as well.

VII- Movie Theater/Landmark Square Office Complex:

  • Pulls: Simplex T-bars
  • Alarms: TrueAlerts, 4903 speaker/strobes, or Cerberus Pyrotronics/Siemens speaker/strobes (theater lobby)

Family Fare Supermarket- Mandan, ND

Panel- Potter PFC-4064 (Replaced the building’s original Simplex 4004 that died a few years ago).

Notification Appliances- One Simplex 4903 mechanical horn strobe at the front of the store. There is also a TrueAlert remote strobe in the pharmacy and 4903 remote strobes in the bathrooms.

Pull Stations- One Simplex 2099-9754 at the front service counter

Detectors- There are a few Simplex duct detectors and conventional TrueAlarms

Fails- The panel is at the main entrance and is currently completely blocked by a stack of extremely heavy cases of water bottles. There is also an extreme lack of notification coverage (especially strobe coverage) throughout the store. This is because the only notification appliance throughout the entire main area of the store is the one 4903 horn strobe. That is also the only horn in the building (at least in the areas that customers are allowed to access).

Note- This building was built in the late 90’s and is sprinklered.
