Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

Central Middle School, Greenwich, CT:
This school, overseen by the Greenwich BOE, built in 1958, serves the Cos Cob area of Greenwich, as well as the surrounding areas off of Stanwich Road and North Street. There are two other middle schools in Greenwich: Eastern Middle School and Western Middle School. Currently, the building is undergoing a huge expansion and renovation- potentially renovating the fire alarm system.

Currently, they have a Fire-Lite MS-9200UDLS as their panel, tied into a smaller Potter EVAX voice evac panel (the EVAX is located in the back of the auditorium.)

The pull stations are BG-12LXs:

The N/As are Wheelock ET70s (with the logo):

The detectors are SD355s and SD365s.

Sorry, I wouldn’t know. Somebody else with more technical experience would have a better answer.

Unless there is some Notifier panel in that building, that’s the only thing that would be possible. I guess it would make sense because Johnson Controls bought Simplex but they used Notifier before that.

They do not surprisingly

Museum of Fine Arts - Boston, MA
Pulls: EST SIGA-278’s

Detectors: SIGA’s and Signature Opticas

Signals: Genesis speaker/strobes in most areas…

…and Integrity speaker/strobes mounted in a very creative way in one area.

That last photo is clever, but I’m not sure it’s within code either given the speaker, “FIRE” lettering, & possibly also the strobe are all blocked (though the strobe being horizontal instead of vertical like normal might be acceptable since Integrities typically feature what looks like an omnidirectional reflector design, meaning that it might not matter which way they’re mounted unlike other strobes with asymmetrical reflector designs).

Comfort Inn Hotel- Mandan, ND
This hotel opened in 2014. It is currently the only decent hotel in the area that isn’t over 40 years old and run down, so it’s pretty busy.

Fire Alarm System:
Panel: Harrington Signal FireSpy Tracker T8000 (or maybe a smaller T2000) addressable panel

Pull Stations: Harrington Signal HSPS1T-KL-S addressable pull stations

Common Areas and ADA Rooms:
Notification Appliances: Harrington Signal rebranded Gentex Commander 3 horn/strobes and remote strobes

Smoke Detectors: Harrington Signal (System Sensor) 2251B addressable detectors on standard bases

Non-ADA Rooms:
Harrington Signal (System Sensor) 2251B addressable detectors on sounder bases

A few pictures I got from Google:

Bro I was at the MFA Yesterday! I actually kind of like the Edwards Integrity Strobe Horizontal. Though I don’t really like that the strobe is only 15/75CD because the area is large (I would’ve hoped for a 110CD Strobe Coverage, but whatever) though it is enhanced. If it works then everything is in good hands! I really love the MFA! For some reason because the Genesis Speaker/Strobes are Multi Candela I would think some are possibly set on Higher Candelas than 15 and possibly some ceiling mounts are High Candela. The wattage selection I always love seeing those on the Genesis Speaker/Strobes!

Don’t have any pics- sorry
Union Pacific Headquarters, Omaha, NE
System is an Edwards EST3 system most likely. Smokes are the older EST SIGA smokes. For NAs, they use the Genesis series. A mixture of Speaker strobes and remote strobes specifically.
I wish I took pictures, but I didn’t know if that would be allowed on the tour that I took.

NYC Grand-central Madison has a Simplex system (Probably a Simplex 4100ES) Weelock RSSs on posts where I assume speakers have been installed in and E90s on the ceiling

Some updates:
Monaco Beach Club Condominium - Naples, FL
A new condo unit has G4 and GC-series speakers and a SIGA-HRD heat detector.

Southwest Florida International Airport - Unincorporated Lee County, FL
Some more G4 and GC-series speaker/strobes have been added.

First Lutheran Church- Mandan, ND
Panel: Siemens SXL-EX

Notification Appliances: White versions of EST 792 horn/strobes and their matching remote strobes (surprisingly many are not yellowed) and at least one System Sensor P2R horn/strobe.

Here’s a remote strobe that I took a picture of:

Pull Stations: Cerberus Pyrotronics MS-51 conventional pull stations

Smoke Detectors: Cerberus Pyrotronics PE-3 conventional photoelectric smoke detectors (there are an absurd amount of these throughout the fairly small building (like one every few feet), but I guess that’s good because it’s not a sprinklered building)

This system is from my collage and is suspected to be a former simplex 2120 system, likely upgraded to a 4100ES, Renovated spaces have true alert ESs and they added more notification appliances where the 2903s didn’t reach. 2 smoke detectors were replaced and one got a new head, it also appears they added a detector for the elevator recall. A few of the 2903s were replaced with 4903s (likely electronic horns) and one new install 4903. Idk why they installed what appears to be 4050. One 4305 annunciator was in the library and another one in the museum (The building was split up into 4 different sections each with their own entrance). I find it to be a very cool and unique system, though a part of me hopes the system is still a 2120 and they’re using a 4009 for the true alert ESs.

That system is quite interesting indeed, especially the mix of old & new Simplex devices (seemingly being used together at the same time no less!). Also interesting how some of the “wiffleball” detectors are photoelectric & some are ionization (going by the design of the heads: ones with partially covered slots are ionization & uncovered slot ones are photoelectric from what I’ve seen), & I find it amusing how the one TrueAlarm literally has “RECALL” Sharpied on it, yet has yet to be replaced if it’s actually recalled as well, heh.

A 2120 huh? Might be one of the few still left in service! (if one’s still there at least)

That TrueAlarm with the writing is probably for elevator recall.

Here is a big one:

My High School - Rural East Tennessee (not revealing locations for privacy reasons):

The old system consisted of Wheelock 3X series horns with flush plates that mount in a similar fashion to the Simplex 4050-80/40XX-60 light plates.
