As i said before, it is nice when buildings keep an old fire alarm system in use.
Here are some systems that i’ve seen today!
Superstore has a Notifier AFP-200 system, with System Sensor SpectrAlert Classic Horn/Strobes. One of the SpectrAlerts is falling off it’s trim plate. Pulls are all Notifier NFM-950B, and a few of them have Stoppers.
Mountain View Optometry has a Simplex system, with white non-addressable, TrueAlert Horn/Strobes! Pulls are all Simplex 4099-9001/2099-9754.
Calgary Public Library (mentioned twice) used to have a Simplex 4010 system, with System Sensor SpectrAlert Classic horn/strobes. Pulls were all 4099-9001. In the spring of 2014, I went there, and the system was replaced! Now it has a Notifier NFS-320C system, and all the pulls are now Notifier
NBG-12LX under stoppers. (they are addressable, each had a light flashing in them.) The SpectrAlert horn/strobes were kept.
Alberta Children’s Hospital has an EST voice Evac system with mainly EST 964 speakers. Half of them have a white ceiling mount EST Integrity strobe next to them, while half of them do not. The stairwell has EST Genesis speakers (wall mount, red, FIRE lettering). The hall that leads you to the parking garage has EST 964 round speaker/strobes, and one EST Genesis wall mount speaker/strobe (red, FIRE lettering). The parking garage has EST 965-5A-T square baffled speaker/strobes. Pulls are EST SIGA-270, with some SIGA-270P.
Whoops! Looks like I made a mistake. I mean a Vigilant VS1 panel. And also, the older system was conventional while the new system is addressable.
I was there when they took them down and I didn’t ask so I was unable to acquire any alarms from it unfortunately.
The strobes next to the speakers are white EST 202-5A-T with the ‘FIRE’ lettering horizontally. Near the cafeteria there are 3 speakers next to each other (the EST 964 for the fire alarm, the Enforcer E86CW for the announcements, and a Bose FreeSpace for the music) The 964 speakers are model 964-1A-8RW, the round EST speaker strobes are 964-3A-8RW, and the parking garage speakers 964-3A-8SW. The EST Genesis speakers are model EG4RF-S2. The Genesis speaker strobe is EG4RF-S2VM. The smokes are all SIGA-PS.
Safeway in Crowfoot has an extreme interesting system. It is a Simplex 4100ES system (installed in 2015), but it does not have TrueAlerts. It has EST Integrity horn/strobes, model 757-5A-T! Pulls are many models. One is a Edwards 275-C111, can be found by the right entrance. A Simplex MS-301C can be found by the carts entrance (the panel is located there). By the juice and the bakery, there are Notifier NFM-950B pulls. All other places have Tyco/Grinnell rebranded NFM-950B.
The original panel was an old Edwards panel (added in 1990’s), and the Integrities are the original and current signals. The pulls were all kept too!
Costco has a Mircom FX-2000 system, with mostly Mircom FHS-240 horn/strobes (red, FIRE letterin.) One got vandalized (it’s strobe was ripped out) and was replaced in 2012 with a Potter/Amseco/Mircom FHS-340 (red, FIRE lettering.) the cooler, dairy, and produce areas have System Sensor SpectrAlert Classic horn/strobes. There is a signal outside. Near the entrance of the building, there’s a System Sensor SpectrAlert Classic remote strobe. Pulls are all Mircom MS-401.
Bow Valley Square has a Notifier voice-evac system (possible NFS2-3030), with mostly System Sensor SpectrAlert Advanced SPSCW speaker/strobes and System Sensor SpectrAlert Advanced SPCW speakers. They are in the pattern of strobe, no strobe, strobe, no strobe. The Tim Hortons there however has a System Sensor SP2C2415 speaker/strobe. The parking garage underground has System Sensor SpectrAlert Advance SPSR speaker/strobes. Pulls are all bilingual Notifier dual-stage T-Bars, but I did see a Notifier NFM-950B pull in the parking garage.
Sorry for the repetitive posts, I also noticed another signal in the parking garage, although it’s hardly noticeable. on one side of a pole, there’s a System Sensor SP200W and a System Sensor SCW.
The Dalhousie Safeway has an EST 6632 system with mainly Edwards 439D-10AWC bells on EST 403-5A-R strobe plates. One is outside. By the floral department, there is a 439D-10AWC on a Wheelock RSSP-24MCW strobe plate. On the ceilings there are red and white EST 202-5A-T strobes, and red System Sensor SpectrAlert Advanced strobes. They were wall mount, but mounted on the ceiling and have “FIRE” sideways. Pulls are all Edwards 270-SPO
So…a local church near me just got an upgrade of sorts.
The original system:
EST QuickStart QS1
EST SIGA-PS smoke/duct detectors
EST SIGA-278 pulls
EST Genesis G1-Series fixed candela signals
The QuickStart failed miserably due to a phantom CPU fault (how surprising  ), so a new system has been installed…
New System
Fire-Lite MS-9200UDLS
Fire-Lite SD-355 smoke/duct detectors
Fire-Lite BG-12LX pulls
The Genesis signals are being re-used! The company installed a remote Genesis Signal Master tied into a Fire-Lite FCPS-something power supply. I definitely did not expect that, as the company in question is a huge fan of our dearly beloved SpectrAlert Advances.
My local Walmart Supercenter recently had a bit of a minor upgrade where 3 NA’s were replaced. The main NA’s are Spectralert Classic ceiling mount horn/strobes, and 3 of them were recently replaced with Spectralert Advance ceiling mount horn/strobes. The restrooms have wall mount Classic horn/strobes. The only pull station I could find is a Radionics dual-action pull station in the customer service department. There’s a Radionics annunciator at the market side enterance.
The Jerusalem Shawarma place has a NOTIFIER system, with System Sensor P2R/P4R horn/strobes. The pulls are all addressable Notifier NBG-12LX
The Albuquerque International Airport updated its system. Sadly replacing all the hundreds of Wheelock 7002-T’s and several SpectrAlert Classic horns, as well as Simplex 4051’s on lightplates, were all replaced with SystemSensor White speaker strobes…seriously…I love Advances but not in this scenario…this sucks. Plus all the original smoke detectors were replaced with Beam detectors. And there are at least 100 of them even in the smallest rooms. I guess they had a ton of extra money. Some 4051’s are still there but covered with black trash bag plastic. This update is very…wait for it…ALARMING concidering that most systems here have vibratory/electromagnetic horns still.
I’m leaving to go cry now.
There were Simplex 4051s there!?
leaves to scream incoherently
Uh huh! Well not anymore!! They have few left in the parking garage but they are disconnected and covered as well.
Where exactly were the 4051s other than the parking garage?
They were located around security and most of the terminals opposite wall of the bells near the terminal exits. You’ve been to this airport?
No I have never been to New Mexico before but I never thought of an airport having 4051s.
The University of Calgary Child Development Center has a Simplex 4100ES, with Simplex TrueAlert 4906-9154 speaker/strobes (first time I see a ceiling mounted TrueAlert in Calgary). The smokes are addressable Simplex TrueAlarms. Pulls are all 4099-9001.
Cleveland airport had 7002T’s, Gentex SHG’s (earlier non ADA models), and System Sensor MA/SS sounder strobes (with the non ADA strobes). After a 2015/2016 upgrade, they have a Simplex 4100ES with TrueAlert ES horn strobes and regular TrueAlert speaker strobes and 4099-9006 LED dual action Tbars. They had a mix of ESL/Thorn RSG T-Bars and Kidde (Thorn rebranded) B5’s too. Some are still there because I imagine it would’ve cost too much to replace everything. Oh and they also have red Wheelock RSS-24MCW strobes in the bathrooms but the beauty plates must be custom because they have no FIRE lettering and no, it isn’t just faded.
