I recently obtained this rebranded System Sensor MA12/24DB horn complete with flush plate and proper back box. I really like the look of the MA with the flush plate. Not really worth doing a video since it’s just a stock MA that’s rebranded
Oh wow: heck of a find right there! (white, flush-mount, & rebranded by Von Duprin of all companies!)
I guess now thanks to that MASS we have more of an idea of what happened to Von Duprin, one of the more obscure companies in the business, especially given the “Part of worldwide Ingersoll-Rand” lettering on the label (prior to this it seemed like Von Duprin was a “20th-century company” (if you get what I mean) that just disappeared seemingly without a trace later on (possibly towards the end of the 20th century or beginning of the 21st century).
that company is the original inventor of the panic bar and used to be known as Vonnegut hardware of Indianapolis
Now we just need to find the Beige MASS-ADA.
They’re still very much alive and well, although I-R no longer owns them (Allegion’s the current holding corp, alongside Schlage, LCN, Steelcraft, Ives, and a few other names in the door/hardware space).
As to why? This was used with their delayed-egress (Chexit) and alarmed-egress panic hardware as the alarm horn. (The current part for that is still called the 1910 series, which is still a rebrand of something, but I’m simply not quite sure what nowadays.)
Oh, really? Okay. They’re just not in the life safety industry anymore like they used to be huh? (or at least when it comes to the products they used to make/sell/distribute/rebrand, which according to a spreadsheet I made were “notification appliances” (not sure what this means exactly other than I’m pretty sure it means besides the ones they might rebrand today & the MASS they rebranded at one time)
That wouldn’t happen to be the devices talked about in this topic would it? (which are rebranded original SpectrAlerts)
As far as I can tell, yes, it’s the same thing as depicted in that thread. (Which might explain why the current model costs several hundred dollars.)
The horns seem to be rebranded under Schlage now instead of Von Duprin or Locknetics. That said, I wouldn’t call them “not in the life safety industry”, just not so involved with alarm-world any longer.
