I guess its never too late to introduce myself!!
Hi, I’m honk108, but you can also call me Jakob. (yes, it’s spelled with a K)
I have had many interests in the past, including tornadoes, dinosaurs, tornado sirens, emergency alerts/broadcasts, trains, and of course, fire alarms.
I have been interested in fire alarms since about 2007, when frequent and frightening fire drills at school caused me to search up fire alarm videos on YouTube. The first fire alarm-related video I watched was wiley209’s “School Bells and Fire Alarms”, which led me to other users including NewAgeServerAlarm, weatherdan882002, thesdx (Destin, I believe), twoplyboy, and many more. And my obsession kind of took off from there!
I currently own a very small fire alarm collection, which consists of 2 System Sensor 2021HA hard-wire residential smoke detectors, a BRK First Alert 9120B hard-wired smoke, a Wheelock MT4-24-LSM horn/strobe, and a Simplex 2901-9723 6 inch motor bell. I also have a Tupperware container full of assorted residential burglar alarm parts from a family friend who owns an alarm company!
As for personal facts, I am 13, and I live in Winnipeg Beach, Canada.
I am not clinically diagnosed, though I believe I may have Asperger Syndrome, a mild form of autism. I am incredibly intelligent, I am a literal thinker (meaning it’s hard for me to take a joke or understand a figure of speech), I am a very solitary person, I almost never admit to being wrong, and I have a hard time paying attention in high-noise environments. When I was younger, I had VERY bad anger management issues. The school system thought I had autism, and they were going to send me to the district psychologist. My parents didn’t want to wait 6 months for results, so they got my pediatrician to perform the tests and they came back clean. But, since autism runs in the family (two of my cousins are autistic), I THINK, but do not KNOW I am autistic.
This may have been why I would cry in elementary school when the fire bell went off, and up until 2 years ago I would have a panic attack whenever someone mentioned that we were having a fire drill. If it weren’t for that, I would have never been into fire alarms, and I would have never met any of you wonderful people!
