Our district has been having nothing but problems with our brand-new Saf-T-Liners. There have been more of them out of service in one year than our IC CEs over three years.
I think we have a dedicated topic to school buses.
There is a dedicated topic in the General discussion forum, but I am assuming you meant that we should create a subforum for it. Honestly, we don’t need a subforum related to school busses. This is a fire alarm forum, and it should be related to fire alarms. Also, this is the Introduce Yourself topic, so please try to stay focused on introducing yourself.
I’ll keep this short since I’m leaving work in a few minutes.
I started in the business back in 1987 for a small company that primarily inspected, tested & refurbished fire extinguishers, hoses, CO2 tanks, hood systems, etc. while I was going to college for an AS degree in Music Electronics. About a year later the company hired a guy out of tech school to work on fire alarm systems and I’d help him when he needed it. Around the same time they teamed up with another startup company that primarily worked on releasing & fire alarm systems in NYC and I went to work for them full time when I finished college.
Been doing it ever since, primarily Siemens equipment (XL3, System3, IXL, PXL, MXL(V), XLS) but have worked on almost every other system out there. I’ve worked in NYC, South Florida, Arizona and the DC areas over the years.
I’m currently working for the federal government in the DC area testing & maintaining fire & suppression systems in some of the historic buildings around the National Mall (it’s a different world in some of these buildings).
Anyhow, that’s my story in a nutshell & I’m sticking to it. In 2017 I can honestly say I’ve been doing this sh*t for 30 years. Sigh.
I’m Newly Registered To The Site, But I’m Not New To Hobbyist Fire Alarm Collections, I Started My Collection In Early 2006 With A Wheelock CH70 Chime, A BG-12, And A 24V Scooter Charger. The Thing That Got Me Into Alarms Was One Of Andrew’s Videos (I Think System Test 10). After That My Collection Kinda Grew From That CH70 To 30+ Devices And 2 Panels. I Was 9 When I Got That CH70 And Now I’m 17 And Studying NFPA Codes (Specifically NFPA 72). I’m Awaiting Arrival Of My Factory New Firelite MS-2.
Glad to see you on the board! I hope you enjoy your stay, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask a moderator, admin, or other such learned individual.
For those members who may not know me, my name is Kevin John Camilleri, and I have been a member of this forum since 2010.
In the past several months, I have been revisiting this forum as a guest following a lengthy absence. My interest in fire alarms was weaning during my hiatus, but it is gradually picking back up again. After taking some time to reflect on my previous actions, I am here to announce my return to the forum on a daily basis.
I do realize and take full accountability that some of my previous postings here were made without thinking clearly enough how the content of my posts would be a cause for concern among some users. Specifically, I have been a bit excessive and obsessive in creating topics that were not all that unique, interesting, or otherwise helpful. Another problem I had was with excessive postings of fire alarms in buildings; in many cases, the notification appliances and such were not all that new or otherwise interesting to talk about.
Since I was last active on the forum, I am now 21 and I am in progress for an Associate’s of applied science. I am also in the beginning stages of establishing a fire alarm collection; to date, I have five devices, which I hope to upload here soon.
There is one more thing I want to add regarding myself, and it’s something I may not have previously disclosed on here before. I am living with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism that causes social and developmental impairment. I was diagnosed at the age of two. If I sound like I am not making any sense or if I am being unclear in my posts, I apologize.
With that, I am back to start anew, and hopefully become a valuable contributor to the forums once again. I have taken pictures of some fire alarms recently, along with having seen some vintage and mixed systems, so I hope to have those discussed and uploaded in the future. If anybody has any questions about me, feel free to send a PM and we can discuss the topic further.
My name is Jason, and while I’ve worked in just about every aspect of IT since 2001, I’m currently settled in Florida as SQL developer working on business intelligence and data warehousing architecture. Typically you hear about people becoming “accidental DBAs”, but my current position goes the other direction and you could call me an “Accidental sysadmin” as well. I honestly never figured I would have to do anything with a security or fire panel Ha!
That being said, I reached out recently here to help troubleshoot phone line issues with a fire panel at one of our remote locations and found quick and helpful responses. Thank you for the help and I’ll keep browsing the forums to add some knowledge to my skill set.
