Make Up a System (2.0)

Ferncrest Elementary was built in 1976 as a one-story, 500 student campus. The school gained a 6-classroom addition in 1988, and a new media center in 2009.

Initiating Devices

  • The 1976 and 1988 buildings have a mix of 4521-20, and 2099 pulls. There is a lone EST 278 pull in the kitchen. The original Simplex heat sensors in the 1976 building remain, but the original Pyrotector smokes were replaced with a mix of older and newer 2098 series devices. Areas that were the old media center have 4098 series smoke detectors. The 1988 building has newer Simplex heat detectors.The 2009 addition has 4099-9001 pulls, and 4098 series smoke and heat detectors.

Notification Appliances

  • The 1976 building mostly has Simplex 4051 horns on 4050-85 light plates. Two 4050-85s were replaced with Simplex 4903 strobe plates. There is a 4903-9220 at one end of one of the hallways. Some classrooms have 4051 horns, with a few having them on 4050-85 light plates. There is a Wheelock 7002 in the art room. There is also a TrueAlert in the cafeteria. A few 4051s were replaced with 2901-9806s and one was replaced with a Wheelock 34T. A few classrooms have Wheelock NS horn/strobes. The gym has one 4051+4050-85 and one Gentex SHG. Areas that were the media center have Wheelock HSR horn/strobes. All restrooms have Simplex 4904 strobes. There is a 4051 outside, and two Wheelock ASWP horn/strobes. The 1988 addition has 2901-9833 horns on 2903 strobe plates in the hallways, with three classrooms having 2901-9838 horns, with one having a Siemens U-MMT-MCS horn/strobe. Restrooms have Simplex 2904 strobes. Outside, there are two flush mounted 2901-9833s. The 2009 building has Simplex 4906-9103 horn/strobes throughout, with restrooms having ceiling mounted 4904 strobes. There are Wheelock ASWP horn/strobes outside.

Admin Phones, Mics

  • Current System: Rauland TC6434 at admin desk and in Principal’s Office.
  • Original System: Bogen Mic next to rack

Speakers, Call Switches

  • Current System: Hallways have Rauland ACC1208 speakers, while all classrooms have Rauland ACC1402 speakers with TCDPB2 call switches. The cafeteria and gym has wall mounted Atlas Speakers. Outside, there are flush mounted Atlas Speakers. The media center has Rauland ACC1402 speakers ceiling mounted.
  • Original System: Bogen speakers could be found throughout the school, with Tandy Powerhorns in the gym. All classrooms had Simplex Clock/Speaker combo units.

Bell

  • Current System: Steady tone over intercom
  • Original System: The 1976 building had Simplex 4080 series 6 inch bells in the hallways, with 10 inch bells in the gym and outside. Some of these were replaced with Federal Signal bells. The 1988 addition had Edwards 4 inch bells in the hallways, with 6 inch bells outside. Both buildings had buzzers in the classroom clocks. These all have since been removed.

  • Current System: All clocks are Rauland Digital Clocks.
  • Original System: The school had a mix of Simplex, and Lathem analog clocks.
