My local event center is likely to be getting a major overhaul in the future. Considering how much they will be doing to modernize the building and meet modern codes, I think it’s safe to say that a major fire alarm system overhaul will probably also take place.
Almost two years ago, I made a post about the existing system: Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0) - #2219 by aerhardt
Since then, the system has remained unchanged.
Here’s what I think will most likely happen, and what would make the most sense from logistical and financial standpoints:
The newer area with the existing Siemens system will likely remain unchanged, possibly with some upgrades. If they renovate those areas, they may go for device replacements. The few areas with horn/strobes in this section may get upgraded to voice evac.
The original building’s Simplex system will most likely be scrapped, and the Siemens FireFinder XLS voice evac system will probably be upgraded to an Cerberus PRO Modular and extended to the rest of the building with networked panels. The original building area will probably get Siemens XMS-S/D pull stations, OP921 smoke detectors, and SC Series (ACEND Series) notification appliances.
Another Possible Option:
Both systems are scrapped, and replaced with an Autocall 4100ED voice evac network with TrueAlertES notification appliances and Autocall IDNET addressable initiation devices.
Third Option (not very likely, but still plausible based on the installation companies in my area that are cut out for a project of this scale):
Both systems are scrapped, and replaced with a Potter IPA-4000V voice evac network with PE-SPST (Wheelock/Eaton Eluxa) series notification appliances and Potter PAD addressable initiation devices.
Of course, any brand could theoretically be installed here, but these are the companies in my area that I actually think have a chance of getting the bid on a project of this scale.
I’m excited to see the future of this place, as it’s really the only place like it anywhere near me. I’ll update in the future.
