JFK Hospital 1976
1976: This building had Edwards 881 Adaptahorns along with 890RDB-G5lights right next to them. The pull stations were Edwards 78 pull stations that are break glass. The control panel was Edwards 6500 Custom. It was 24VDC

1988: 7 of the 881’s had to be replaced. So they were all replaced with FOS 6120 A/V’s. But the 890 lights still remained next to the 6120’s. 22 of the 78’s were not coming in contact anymore. So they were replaced with the older Notifier BNG-1’s.

1990: 27 Adaptahorns went bad. 19 of them were replaced with Wheelock 34T’s. The inspector was out of 34T’s. But he had enough horns to replace the other 8. Those horns were Federal Signal Vibratone 450D’s. 2 78 Pull stations were replaced with Simplex 4251-30 break glass pull stations.

1992: The building started to be expanded by 215,000 sqft. And coincidentally enough the 6500 FACP power supply died. A power supply for a 6500 could nowhere. So it was sadly ripped out and was replaced with an early model of the Simplex 4100. 3 Adaptahorns died and were replaced with Simplex 2901-9838’s. All pull stations had to get MAPNET Addressable modules.

1998: After many delays, the expansion was completed. It was decided that all the A/V’s should be removed and replaced with Simplex 4903-9146 Speaker strobes. A Simplex 4003 had to be installed in the basement where the 4100 is. Too many things were in the way. So it was placed about 45 feet from it along with NAC extenders and 2 SLC loops. All the pull stations have to be ADA so the rest of the Edwards 78’s and the Notifier BNG-1’s were replaced with Simplex 2099-9795’s. All small offices and small restrooms, and other small spaces got Simplex 4904-9144 remote strobes. And ET-1080 speakers outside. The smoke detectors are Simplex 4098-9714’s. Along with Edwards heat detectors.

2011: 3 4903-9146’s were replaced with Wheelock E70-24110W speaker strobes. And 8 remotes strobes were replaced with Wheelock STR’s. And 35 smokes were replaced with Silent Knight SD505-APS conventional detectors with an unopened older MAPNET Addressable module. Other then that everything remains the same.

This 1000 student high school is called the Gig Harbor High School.

Cabello High School, 1345 students
Most of the school has Wheelock 34s on Space Age Electronics AV32 light plates. The horns are in continuous and the lights flashed on and off.

In the media center they have Amsecon BZ-50P horns on Amseco SB24 strobe plates.

The AOIT classroom, Carpentry Shop and Business classrooms all have Edwards 894-1B horns.

The Weight Room and the Electronics classroom have Honeywell SC806A1004 horns on Wheelock RSSPs.

When the Home Ec Kitchen was renovated, the 34+AV32 was replaced with a Wheelock MT horn set to code-3 horn.

Likewise, the band classroom had a 34+AV32 that died and was replaced with a SC806A1004+RSSP. When that ALSO died, the room got a Cerberus Pyrotronics MTL horn in code-3.

Here’s one based on Disney’s Recess:

Third St Elementary School, built in 1928, originally had a pull-rod fire alarm system, which was automated in 1955 with a Standard Electric Time UAX-3 Fire Alarm System. The alarms were Standard Electric Time rebranded IBM 4030-2 Horns, installed mostly in the hallways, the library, and cafeteria. The auditorium and gym had Standard Electric Time rebranded IBM 4030-1 horns. The pull stations were mostly Standard Electric Time 200117s and Standard Electric Time heat sensors were installed in many areas. Signal coding was 17-0-0. The school bells were mostly Standard Electric Time 6 Inch Bells, mostly in the hallways, larger classrooms, and the library. Outside, and in the gym, cafeteria, and auditorium, they had Standard Electric Time 10 Inch Bells. Most if not all the classrooms had Dixie Buzzers as well. The master clock system was by Standard Electric Time AR2A with bell circuits.

In 1972, a lightning storm took out the fire alarm panel, and unfortunately, the entire fire alarm system went down with it. The basically took out the old system and put in a new Standard Electric Time SET7000 Fire Alarm System. The new signals are Standard Electric Time 4-350 Horns on Light Plates, and even some installed in larger classrooms, the band room, and art studio. The pull stations are Standard Electric Time 200117s and Standard Electric Time heat sensors were installed in many areas. They also installed a few Statitrol Smoke Detectors as well. Signal coding was continuous.

In 1977, a 6 Inch Bell died. It was replaced with an Edwards 6 Inch Bell.

In 1979, a 4-350 Horn on the second floor died. That was replaced with a Federal Signal 450 Horn.

In 1981, two 200117s broke. They were replaced with Edwards 270-SPOs. Also a 4-350 and it’s light plate was found inoperative. It was replaced with a Space Age Electronics 2DCD Horn on a AV32 Light Plate.

In 1985, a Senitrol smoke detector malfunctioned. It was replaced with an ESL Smoke Detector. Also a 10 inch bell was found to be inoperative. It was replaced with a Faraday 10 Inch Bell.

In 1989, a 200117 was found inoperative. It was replaced with a Fire Lite BG-6. A heat detector was also found inoperative and was replaced with an Edwards Heat Detector.

In 1991, a 4-350 in the library died. It was replaced with a FOS 6120-5511 Horn/Strobe, the light plate was also disconnected. Around the same year, a light had malfunctioned and was replaced with a Wheelock RSS Strobe.

In 1994, the SET/7000 malfunctioned. The panel was replaced with a Notifier AM-2020. Everything else remained the same. Also, an elevator was put in, and System Sensor 2400 Smoke Detectors were installed for elevator recall purposes, these were tied into a Pyrotronics System 3, which was tied into the AM-2020. Signal coding is continuous.

In 1995, two 4-350s (one in the 3rd grade wing, and one in the locker room), along with a light plate were found inoperative. The 4-350s were replaced with Gentex GMS Horn/Strobes, and the light was replaced with a Gentex GXS strobe. Also a Notifier BG-10 was installed to replace a broken 200117.

In 1996, the school gained fire sprinklers, and a Federal Signal 350+iStrobe were added as the sprinkler alarm.

In 1997, the school’s clock system was broken by a student throwing a ball at the playground clock. The system was replaced with a SAL 3000, replacing the internal bells and the intercom system. The bell was a tone over the intercom. The external bells were initially disconnected.
After a few months, the system began malfunctioning before becoming inoperative altogether. The original playground clock was re-installed. The internal hallway bells and dixie buzzers were removed, and the PA System was replaced with a new Bogen Multicom 2000 system. New Bogen Clocks and Speakers were placed around campus, and new call in switches were installed in the classrooms. The internal bell is a 4-second tone over the intercom, and the external bells were connected to the new master-clock system, which is a Lathem System.

In 1998, a 4-350 was found inoperative. It was replaced with a Wheelock MT-WM horn/strobe.

In 2002, a pull station in the auditorium was found inoperative during a fire drill. It was replaced with a Notifier BG-10. Also, System Sensor remote strobes were installed in 3 restrooms.

In 2004, the auditorium and gym were renovated. The main FACP was replaced with a Notifier NFS-3030 with DVC. The alarms and pull stations in those areas were removed. The new alarms in the gym and auditorium are System Sensor Spectralert Speaker/Strobes, with a few remote strobes where coverage was needed. The new pull stations are Notifier BG-12s and Notifier FSP smokes were installed as well. The speaker strobes play a slow whoop tone and voice evac message. Everything else remained the same.

In 2005, they installed System Sensor Spectralert Horn/Strobes in 2 classrooms because teachers began complaining that they couldn’t hear the fire alarms. Also, a 200117 was replaced with a BG-12LX.

In 2006, a 4-350 in the kitchen died. It and the light plate was replaced with a Mircom Select-a-Horn/Strobe. Also, a Heat detector was replaced with an System Sensor Heat Detector.

In 2009, a 4-350 in the 5th grade hallway was replaced with a System Sensor P2R.

In 2011, the Kindergarten and First Grade wings were renovated, along with the art room, which was in that wing. The 4-350s in that wing were replaced with Wheelock MT-24VFR Horn/Strobes, which were also installed in the classrooms, 2 of which were converted to computer labs, and Wheelock RSS strobes in the restrooms. The 200117s were replaced with Notifier BG-12LXs and the heat and smoke sensors were replaced as well. A Wheelock ASWP horn/strobe was installed outside. The 2 Standard Electric Time 10 Inch Bells were replaced with Wheelock MB10s. Also, a 200117 broke and was replaced with a Notifier BG-12LX.

In 2014, 5 classrooms were renovated. Those classrooms gained a Wheelock MT-24VFR Horn/Strobe.

In 2015, a smoke detector malfunctioned, and was replaced with a System Sensor i3.

I have so many of these planned out in my head, I could fill out my own topic…

The Mitchell J. Thorne Elementary School with 700 students.
Originally, the horns put in the school when it was built were Simplex 4037 horns. They were replaced, the holes where they were in the wall were covered with plates and Simplex 4051s on Space Age Electronics AV32 flashers were installed. When the school was renovated again, Simplex 9219 horns were used and are in many areas.

The art room 4051 broke down during the era of the 9833 horns Simplex was using so they replaced the horn with a 9833 on a 2901 strobe plate.

One wing which also had 4051s ended up dying due to an electrical surge which just affected that wing. The replacement horns were Simplex 9838 horns on 9105 strobe plates.

The resource room for 3rd grade which was bigger had its 4051 break down, so they put a Simplex 9237 in its place. Because the installers realized how obnoxious it sounded in that room by itself, they set it to code-3.

The enrichment room for K, 1st and 2nd grades had a Simplex 9806 on a 4904 strobe plate replace the broken down 4051.

The gymnasium had one of the horns in there smashed by accident, so they installed Simplex 9252 horns replacing ALL the 4051s so no 4051s in the school were left and they placed them under large metal grates,

Katherine H. Beckett Middle School has 800 students and an alarm system set up like this.
The hallways all have Simplex 4041 horns on Faraday 5415 light plates

The auxiliary gymnasium has one Simplex 4051 on a 4050-80 light plate

The library has an Edwards 792 horn/strobe in it

The chorus room has a Space Age Electronics 2DCD on a Space Age Electronics AV32 light plate

The cafeteria has a unique system because they have System Sensor MA12/24Ds set to 2400 continuous but coded to code-3 on the panel

And finally, the auditorium has Gentex GOSs set to 800 Hz Code-3
Curwen High School was built in 1973 and now has 905 students. This is the system that it has now.
All hallways have Simplex 4051 horns on 4050-80 light plates. No fire lettering and the lights just stay on when the alarm goes off. Set in continuous.

The hallway outside of the gymnasium were renovated in the 1980s and the horns there now are Simplex 2901-9833 horns on 2901 light plates. The lights stay lit up. These horns too were also in continuous.

The library right now has a Gentex GMS that sound very low pitched and makes a cool echo in the room that is so effective, they only needed one horn in there. This one has a strobe that flashes. Set to continuous.

The weight room had a 4051 that broke down in the mid-90s so the replacement horn was a Space Age Electronics VA4 horn/strobe set on a continuous tone.

There was a massive explosion in the mechanical room over one summer vacation and the room had to be completely gutted and rebuilt including the alarm in there. They put in a Siemens U-MMT horn and strobe set on code-3 horn in there.

Finally, the drama classroom behind the auditorium had a hard time hearing the alarms so sometime in the late 90s, they installed a Simplex 4903-9236 horn/strobe in the room set to code-3. That got their attention.
The Travis C. Montgomery Memorial Elementary School with 722 students is built like this.
The hallways in the school have Simplex 2901-9838 horns on 4903-9101 strobe plates which are set to continuous.

Over in the music room, the 2901-9838+4903-9101 horn was replaced by a Simplex 4903-9217.

The biggest resource room which is the K/1 resource room has a 4903-9237 horn/strobe also on continuous.

The Behavioral Support classroom has a different horn setup because instead of a Simplex horn, it is a Wheelock 34T on a Space Age Electronics AV34 light plate that blinks.

The recently renovated nurse’s office now has an EST Genesis which is set to code-3 horn.

And the speech classroom has a Cerberus Pyrotronics MTL horn which is set to code-3 horn.
Wayne Carle Middle School
Almost all the hallways in the school on both floors and some rooms have Wheelock 7002Ts set to continuous

Meanwhile the foreign language classroom has a Siemens U-HNH horn/strobe in there instead of a Wheelock 7002T set to continuous

The mechanical drawing classroom and the administration hallway though have Edwards 792s set to continuous

The music, art and business classrooms have Space Age Electronics 2DCD horns on AV32 lamp plate also in continuous though the lamp blinks

The Consumer and Family Science classroom as well as the Keyboarding classroom have FCI HE-8F-STW set to code-3 horn

Finally, the weight room has a Gentex Commander 3 horn in it
This 750 student high school, named Andrea D. Masterson High School has a system that is a mix of old and new, and for the most part, it is primarily an Edwards system.
The horn that there is the most of in the school is the Edwards cheap rip-off version of the 4051, Edwards Adaptahorns on Edwards 891D light plates. These plates don't have the fire lettering on the lights but they blink when in alarm and the horn is set to continuous

The business technology lab which was updated in the early to mid 80s, has a Edwards 894-1B horn/strobe also set to continuous tone. It sounds the same as the Adaptahorns except for pitch and having a strobe

The weight room has the newer Edwards 892-2B horn after the upgrade it received since it was at one point, the old art room before it got moved into a bigger classroom

The drama classroom at one point had an 894-1B, but that broke down so it had to be replaced in the mid-90s. So it was replaced with a Siemens U-HNH horn

The new wood shop lab that was renovated and more modernized had its horn replaced also but it was given a FCI rebranded SpectrAlert which is set to code-3

Finally, the covered porch of the high school has one Simplex GX-90 which does code-3 also but it is coded from a NAC extender on the panel
The Victor Kiriakis Elementary School which is set up like this. It has 576 students.
Hallways = Simplex 2901-9833 horns on 2903 strobe plates

4/5th Grade Split Classroom = Older Federal Signal 450 horn on Space Age Electronics AV32 light plates that blink

Computer Lab = Gentex SHG

Media Center = Faraday 5640 horns on a Faraday 5415 light plates that blink

Music Room = Wheelock ZNS

Gymnasium = Siemens U-MMT

A System in a hotel has gone through many changes.

•Local, non-ada Edwards 270-SPO pulls
•Wheelock 34t-24 horns with old grille in halls
•System Sensor HW-LF horns in rooms
•Red Simplex 49VO LED strobes everywhere
•Simplex 4007ES
•Fire-Lite i3 smokes

The horn circuit is set on marchtime per AHJ, and the pulls were lowed using Wiremold boxes and conduit to 4’ above the floor 2 years before the ADA laws requiring it were passed.

Some high school somewhere; i’m too lazy to come up with a name.

Administration Building | Built in: 1922 | Renovations: 1963, 1999
The administration building on campus didn’t have a fire alarm system until 1963, when a Couch system was installed, with Couch circular pull stations and old Couch fire horns. This system was relatively small, with 6 pull stations and 4 N/A’s.
The building had two hallways running parallel to each other, with six smaller offices on the outer side of each hallway, and the main office located in between the hallways. The four horns were installed by each of the four exits, at either end of each hallway, all of them directly above a pull station. The other two pull stations were found near the back of the main office, and in the utility closet, right next to the panel.

In 1966, one of the old Couch horns died, and was replaced by a Simplex 4037.

In 1979, the Couch panel was replaced with a Simplex 2001 panel. In addition to this, the techs replaced two pull stations found to be non-working with Simplex 4251-30’s.

In 1996, a weatherproof Wheelock MT was added for extra protection.

In 1999 the whole building was gut-renovated, and in addition received a brand new fire alarm system.

The new panel installed was a Fire-Lite MS-4, along with nine Wheelock AS notification appliances (Four of which replaced the old alarms, two were added in the middle of each hallway, one was added in the main office, and two Wheelock RSS remote strobes were added in the restrooms.), and four Fire-Lite BG-12’s (The pull station in the office was removed). In addition, the five System Sensor 2400-series smoke detectors were added, along with one heat detector.

In 2013, a Wheelock AS broke. It was replaced with a Wheelock Exceder.

That’s all for now! I plan on posting more from this fictional school in the future.

I forgot to mention that the Couch pull station in the utility closet was not removed during the renovations, but disconnected. It was pulled at some point (obviously not triggering an alarm), and remains pulled to this day.

Going back to building off of other posts like in the original topic.

The heat detector, which is located in the same closet, activated, causing the pulled station to be reset, and re-connected. It was pulled again, but did not cause alarm. Nobody knows that it was pulled again, so it remains that way.

Edit: Given this is a popular open-ended topic, can we have a sticky on this?

A school built in the early 1993 had a simplex 4002 system set on march time with 2903 light plates and 4901-9805 and simplex 2099-9795 pull stations. In 1998 a 4901-9805 in the gym broke and was replaced with a Wheelock AH horn which was mounted next to the light plate. In 2001 the entire system was replaced due to ADA requirements. The 4002 was replaced with a Siemens panel and all of the 4901-9805’s and light plates were replaced with UMMT’s which were set on code 3 horn. The pull stations were replaced with HMS-S pull stations. In 2006 the school added a new Gym in which also had Siemens UMMT horn strobes and HMS-S pull stations. In 2012 the panel fried from lightning and was replaced with a Siemens MXL panel.
