Make up a system

This system is based off the school featured in Bruce Coville’s book “My Teacher Fried My Brains.”

The Kennituck Falls Junior High School, built in 1978, has a Simplex 4207 fire alarm system; the panel being located in the main office, and one of those old large two-bay Simplex annunciators (with the indicator lamps having zone locations written on them) located outside the office.
The alarm signals are red 10-inch vibrating Simplex bells. To avoid any confusion with the school bells (which were 6-inch beige Simplex and blue Edwards Adapt-a-bels installed next to each alarm bell), the fire bells were flush-mounted behind gray grilles (the school bells were surface-mounted on trim plates), with remote 4050-80 lights underneath the grilles (with black “FIRE” lettering), The bells would ring in Continuous while the lights flash in slow March Time.
All the pull stations were Simplex 4251-20 T-bars, rigged so that when one is pulled, purple ink winds up on the puller’s hand. Old Simplex 42XX-series wiffle-ball smoke detectors were also installed in the hallways, stairwells and in large rooms. Other areas had 4255-1 mechanical “bell-shaped” heat detectors installed.
They also installed a Simplex 4051 horn on a Space Age AV32 light plate outside the building, not too far from the main entrance. Also next to each exterior school bell (6-inch Simplex bells flush-mounted behind grilles), a beige Simplex 4050 horn was installed for use as an all-clear signal at the end of fire drills, and for other non-fire emergency purposes.

In 1988, a few of the older detectors were replaced with photoelectric 2098-9636 “wiffle-ball” heads on 4-wire 2098-9536 bases. Additionally, at least two of the Simplex fire bells were found to be no longer working, so they replaced them with Simplex 2901-9838 horns installed behind the grilles.

A modular building was then added in 1998, and a Simplex 4004 fire alarm panel installed next to the 4207, also providing system monitoring. The modular building had Simplex 4903-9236 horn/strobes, 2099-9756 dual-action pulls and 2098-9201 photoelectric smoke detectors.

During 2003-2008, roughly half of the old ion smoke detectors wore out and were replaced with 4098-9601 photoelectric TrueAlarm detectors. Another Simplex fire bell also malfunctioned during that time, and was replaced with a Wheelock MB-G10-24 motor bell (again, installed behind the grille where the old bell was.) The 4207+4004 panels still remain to this day.

This is based off the school the cast from the “Peanuts” comic strips and TV specials attend (except Peppermint Patty, Marcie and Franklin, as they go to a different school in the comics.)

The Ace Elementary School, grades K-8, was originally built in 1910. The school bells in use at the time is unknown, but the fire alarm simply consisted of those old-fashioned manual “fire gongs.”
The school was added onto in 1957, and with it came new fire alarm and time systems. The system then was an old Gamewell FlexAlarm system, with the older Federal Signal horns (resembling explosion-proof horns). The 1957 wings had them flush-mounted on trim plates, while the 1910 portion had them surface-mounted; in some hallways they had the “gooseneck”-style projectors on them.
The pull stations were the dual-action Gamewell “Vitaguard” models (the ones that look like their older street boxes.) No heat detectors were installed, though the system was tied into a Gamewell master box, permitting it the ability to contact the fire department when set off. The old fire gongs were left intact, but no longer used.
The new time system was a Simplex master clock system, with 6-inch Autocall bells installed next to each of the new alarms.

In 1965, some of the old Autocall bells were replaced with Simplex 402X-series 6-inch vibrating bells.

Everything else stayed the same until early 1976, when the school building suddenly collapsed. The building was rebuilt where the old one was, and opened in time for the 1976-1977 school year. It resembled, and had the same floorplan as, the original building, but of course the fire alarm system was different to match with the latest building codes.
The school now had a Simplex 4207 fire alarm system; the panel located in the main office. Matching annunciators (the kind with the zones written on the large indicator lamps) were installed at the main entrance and at a back entrance near the gymnasium. All of the alarms were Simplex 4051 horns on 4050-80 light plates (with black “FIRE” lettering on the lens). One multi-purpose room and the teachers’ lounge had remote 4050-80 lights installed. The horns were on Continuous while the lights would flash in Slow March Time.
All of the pull stations were Simplex 4251-20 T-bars, with those metal cage covers over the gymnasium pulls. There were also several older ESL smoke/heat detectors throughout the building, along with some 4255-1 mechanical heat detectors and a full sprinkler system.
The master time system was also Simplex, but most of the old Autocall and Simplex bells from the original school were saved, and reinstalled into the new building. A couple more areas had 6-inch Simplex 4090 bells installed. The Autocall bells in the gym were flush-mounted behind grilles.

In 1984, a 4051 horn in the auditorium was found inoperable, and a 2901-9833 horn was installed onto the 4050-80 as a result.

In 1988, the old Simplex 4207 panel suddenly shorted out, and was replaced with a new Simplex 4002 fire alarm panel (the single-bay version) installed next to the now-gutted 4207 cabinet used as a junction box. The old annunciators remained intact, and a 2098-9636 “wiffle-ball” smoke detector on a 2-wire base was installed above the panel.
The following year, a couple more of the old ESL smoke detectors were replaced with similar -9636 wiffle-ball detectors.

In 1995-1997, a few of the 4251-20s were replaced with Simplex 2099-9754 T-bar pulls.

In 2001-2005, roughly half of the old ESL detectors were replaced with conventional TrueAlarm detectors (4098-9601 heads on -9788 bases.)

I’m definitely gonna get back into this, so I’m just posting in order to make sure this doesn’t die before I get a chance to post.

Not necessary – this forum does not get auto-pruned.
Besides, it was an unnecessary bump. Please try not to do that.

Right. Sorry about that. It won’t happen again.

Actually, I WAS posting a system, but then I got logged out so I lost it. :x

Cesar Chavez Elementary School:

The main signals in the hallway and some rooms are Simplex 2901+2903-9806 horn/strobes

Both art rooms on the second floor have Gentex GMS

The OT/PT Room is home to a Gentex GOS, 2400 Hz Continuous

Wheelock 34-24 on an SAE AV34 strobe plate is located in the library

A Simplex 4041 on a Faraday 5510 strobe plate is located in the second floor mechanical room

I can’t do an evolution of a system since I don’t know which horns are older and which ones are newer.

Then in the same school, with that same dumb faire alarm kid, Stopper IIs with horns are put in, over newly installed Wheelock MSP-200s with a SP40S-D panel and E50-24MCW-FR signals. In the hazardous areas, there are CSX10-24-S bells and MSP-400X pull stations.

Oh and by the way ALL of these exist! Go to cooperindustries.com for proof!

Here is another one I did on my spare time:

Alpine Middle School

Wheelock 7002T-24 horns are in the hallways

Wheelock MIZ-24 horns in all the bathrooms

Cerberus Pyrotronics HDC-24C horns on SAE AV32 strobe plates in the business, family/consumer classrooms and the auditorium

Cerberus Pyrotronics U-HNH S17 horns in all three art classrooms, the special education classrooms and the locker rooms

Edwards 892-2B horns in all three music rooms, science labs and the media center

this is a system based on a former mall.
in 1947,the westford mall opened up. it had gamewell masterbox style flush mount pull stations and light bulbs above them.in 1956, a five alarm fire hit the south wing. edwards came and replaced the masterboxes with 270-spos with the old est logo, the light bulbs with red adaptahorns, and installed an old IBM coded system. they also added fire heat detectors. in 1966, a 270-spo broke down. it was replaced with a simplex chevron. in 1967, may d&f was added. the system was chevrons with march time 4040s. the panel was changed to a 4207. in 1971, a huge new wing was added. they put simplex 4251-20s with space age AV strobe plates with simplex 4050s. they put space age AV lights with white lenses in the stores. in 1972, eight spos broke down. they put in 4251-30s. in 1977, they updated the system. they put simplex 2903-9001s with 2901-9833s. in the stores, they put simplex 2904-9001s with red light bulbs. they put a 2001 with whiffle balls.in 1990, they replaces the visuals with all 9101s. the 2001 was changed to a 4100u in 2003. they put in truealert speaker strobes with tbars in. the 2904-9101s still remain with the whiffle balls. 3 2904-9001s remain also. in 2012, they tore down the mall. the system was salvaged and put into the new mall. in 2013, a teenager found the original fire alarms in macys storage room. the system was put in a theatre for historic purposes.
