Simplex -9401s (4903 electromech, SmartSync, and 15 candela)
Simplex -9756 pulls
Simplex SmartSync remote strobes in bathrooms and small classrooms
That was before… The -9401s went bad
Here are the changes
The Simplex 4002 was replaced with a Simplex 4005 to be up to date (same coding, then decided to change the coding to code-3 in 2005)
The -9401s have been replaced with -9422s.
Toledo Middle School is set up like this
Simplex 4100 System (march time)
Simplex -9754 pulls
Simplex 4901-9805s on 4903-9501 plates
Simplex 4904-9501 strobes in classrooms and bathrooms
One Simplex -9805 on a 4903-9101 (strobe on top, 4.5 cd) in a technology room
One Simplex -9838 on a 4903-9101 (strobe on top, 4.5 cd) found in some of the science classrooms.
One 2901-9806 in the basement along with a 4251-20 T-bar.
Well, the -9805s (except for the one on the 4.5 candela strobe plate) started to go bad, but the strobe plates were fine, so they were replaced with 4901-9822’s.
An elementary school built in 1990 consists of Simplex 4251-20 T-bars, a 4001 (it’s a very small school) 4901 remote horns on 4904-9105 plates and 4904-9501 strobes and the panel is set to march time.
In 1996 when codes got changed, 4904-9501 remote strobes were put in bathrooms, classrooms and offices.
A new milennium brought a new addition! Panel got replaced with a 4005, and the new wing has the brand-new TrueAlert style horn/strobes and remote strobes with the panel on march time because the kids are more familiar with it.
2007 came with another addition. They chose Siemens to install the new addition’s system. They kept the 4005, but they put in a System 3 next to it. They installed new Siemens T-Handles because of how similar to Simplex T-bars they are, and they installed U-MMT’s set to Hi-Lo but the panel is on march time so they do only the “high” tone.
Later in 2007 they decided another mini addition should be put in. In there they put U-HNH’s (for lack of U-MMT’s) and Chevrons (for lack of T-handles).
An Elementary School. Lewis E. Parsons elementary school:
The alarm system is set up so it has Standard 4-350 horns with the I-Strobe strobe plate, Simplex 9219s, SpectrAlert Advances, Simplex GX-90S-4s, Wheelock MTs, Simplex TrueAlerts, Wheelock EHS-DL1s and Siemens U-MMTs
Well, the -9806’s went bad (the 2903s worked fine) in 1991 so they replaced them with -9846s. The 2001 was replaced for a 4002 due to problems. The 4002 is set to march time (120 BPM).
Well, sadly, the 2903 light plates, the -9846s, and all the 4251s went bad in 2003. The 2903+2901-9846s were replaced with Wheelock NS’s (set to code 3), the 4002 was replaced with a Simplex 4100, all 4251s were replaced with 4099-9003 dual-action pulls, Wheelock RSS’s were added in the bathrooms near the lobby, Wheelock MIZ’s (the newer ones, code-3) were added in all the hotel rooms.
A new high school.
Simplex 4050s
Simplex 4251-20 pulls
An old Simplex panel (I don’t know a lot about old Simplex panels; the coding is set to continuous)
The 4050s and the pulls went bad. Here are the changes:
The 4050s were replaced with Edwards 892-1B’s.
The 4251s were replaced with Edwards 270-SPO’s.
The old Simplex panel was replaced with an Edwards 1212B panel.
Unfortunately, once again, the alarms and pulls went bad
Here are the changes:
The 892’s were replaced with EST Genesis’s.
The 270-SPO’s were replaced with EST SIGA-278 pulls.
The Edwards 1212B panel was replaced with an EST3 panel.
Mixtures of Simplex 2903+2901-9806’s and Wheelock 34T-24+WS-24’s.
Simplex 4002 that replaced a 2001.
Another factory.
Simplex 4251-20’s.
Simplex 2001 system.
Simplex 4051+4050-85’s.
The 4050-85 light plates went bad in 1987 but the 4051’s were fine so here are the changes:
The 4050-85 light plates were replaced by 2903 incans.
The 2001 was replaced by a 4002.
The 4051’s, the 2903’s, the 4251’s all went bad in 2000 so here are the changes:
The 2903+4051’s were replaced by Wheelock MT’s set to Continuous Horn.
The 4251’s were replaced by Simplex -9754 pulls.
The 4002 was replaced by a 4005 in 2003.
Another conventional center.
Wheelock 7002T’s.
Fire-Lite BG-10’s.
One Wheelock 7002.
Some of the 7002T’s broke in 1999 and got replaced by Wheelock MT’s set to High Volume Code-3 Horn. The 7002 was replaced by a SpectrAlert Advanced (Med Code-3) in early 2007. The BG-10’s were still intact except for one (which was aligned with the 7002) that got replaced by a Fire-Lite BG-12L .
OK, Bad news. On Christmas Day (they are usually closed on Christmas Day for a round of 7 years [this is their 6th in their 4th round] and open for a round of 2 years), they are going to replace ALL the 7002T’s with Cooper Wheelock AS’s set to High Volume code-3 and on 75 candela, and the 7002T in the entrance will be replaced with a Wheelock MT-24-MCW-FR set to High Volume Code-3 tone, and the BG-10’s are still in good condition.
So with that out of the way, on to a middle school that’s sort of like mine.
This is on a 100% Edwards system.
Edwards 892-1B’s in the hallways and in the gym and Edwards 892-2B’s in the bigger classroom.
Edwards 276B-1120 pulls that replaced Edwards 270-SPO’s.
Edwards Integrities set to continuous that replaced some broken 892s
Edwards Integrity set to code-3 in each of the boys and girls locker rooms.
Edwards 892-7A-HSR’s (piezoelectric horn/strobes) in small classrooms.
Edwards 792-7A-006’s in the cafetorium.
Edwards 802-2B-001 strobes in the downstairs bathrooms.
Edwards 202-8A-T strobes in the upstairs bathrooms.
EST Genesis Horn/Strobes (with the fire lettering, code-3, synchronized) in a new wing and SIGA-278 pulls.
EST Genesis Strobes (with the fire lettering and synchronized) in the classrooms and bathrooms in the new wing.
An elementary school built in 1980 had 7002T’s in the hallways and in the Cafeteria, and gym. They upgraded in 1998 to a Simplex 4010 Addressible Panel. They installed 4903-9422’s set to continuous in the Hallways and classrooms, they put 4903 Strobes in the bathrooms. 2 of the fire alarms in the hallways become defective and they were replaced with Gentex Commander 3’s set to Mech C3.
When it was originally built, they had Simplex 2901-9806’s (by themselves) and 4251-20’s on a 2001 system.
Then all the 9806’s (except five) got replaced with 9219’s, all the 4251’s got replaced with -9754’s, and the 2001 got replaced with a 4002 (march time) in the mid 1990’s.
Then they replaced the 9219’s with 9236’s in 1998 and the panel was replaced with a 4005 to produce code-3.
In 2004, four of the 9806’s were replaced with TrueAlerts, TrueAlert strobes were added in the lavatories near the lobby, Simplex rebranded Gentex GX90’s were added in the hotel rooms (they were taken down from another Simplex system which I’ll mention at a later time), and Simplex was nice enough to let Siemens finish the job. The last 9806 was replaced by a U-NH-MCS horn/strobe set to 15 candela
